My 10yr old is really into nature and stuff and is asking me if there is any poisonous wildlife in NZ. As far as I am aware there is just the one spider .. am I right and how poisonous is it, is it like a wasp sting or is it worse.

There is in fact 2 if memory serves me well. There is 1 NZ native spider, can't remember the name, but this is very rare and hardly ever seen. Then there is the white tail spider, imported from OZ which is much more common. The person to ask about white tails in NZ is JWW as he was bitten by one in what was very nearly a very delicate place
:scared:
Check his posts it was headed 'I've been bitten by a spider' or something similar.

I really wouldnt worry about them too much as they are quite rare. I have been ere 2yrs and never seen one. NZ is very much devoid of any nasties.

I would be more concerned with the huge amounts of 1080 that are dropped into wildlife areas than the actual wildlife. It is proven to get into water systems and lands where you don't expect it......
Just make sure youngsters are aware its a deadly poison as its not the sort of stuff you find on your front lawn in the UK.
