points score - bond advice
Good evening all,
Our online points score is 125 but this includes 10 points for the AU$100,000 government bond. Have many of you also had to go down this route in order to gain the additional points and how does the bond work? In order for us to cover this we'd either have to sell up to free equity from the house or take out a loan, which is exactly what we don't want to do as we're trying to pay everything off before we go.
Or have I got it wrong
Many thanks.
Cheryl

Re: points score - bond advice
We have done this.
When requested (Around 4 weeks before you get your visa, and the very last step, once you know you are getting it), they ask for the money. You can choose which state to invest in, NSW, QLD etc. You can choose any, not the one you will be resident in, they all pay different rates. We chose NSW purely as we were going to live here, so wanted to support them.
So, you give them roughly £40,000 GBP. They give you a receipt. You get a cheque after 6 months for the period interest (Around $3000.00), then another cheque 6 months later, another similar interest payment. You can also get your $100,000 back at the point, or choose to leave it in there.

You may need to have another look at the visa requirements as I believe you can only get 5 points for bond investment - not 10.

I think you may need to have another look at the visa requirements and the points test as I believe you can only get 5 points for a bond investment.
