hi i am in australia and have been caught driving with no rego or insurance. I have to go to court to be fined. I have a uk drivers licence, can the points be put on my uk licence or will they be kept if i ever have an aussie one which i hope to maybe have in the future. any help would be great thanks

Start by obeying the laws of Australia and obtain rego and insurance for the car then if you get caught again you wont receive a fine Glad to be of assistance

Not sure on your question, but do you have permanent residency? If so you will have to get an Aussie licence. Three or six months after getting here/pr depending on the state.

Should be jailed. We all moan about getting a few points for a few km over the limit, but if you knocked me down and killed me who is going to look after my wife?

It is an offence to drive whilst uninsured. As in the UK (30 years ago anyway!) you cannot register a vehicle without proof that it is insured against third party injury: the difference here is that the registration department will arrange that for you. You can still select the insurance company.

W.A. rego has third party personal injury coverage included within, of course you'd still be liable for any damage caused, but at least you're legal.

Yes, and SA as far as I know. CPT insurance used to be obtained only from the State Government Insurance company, but since everything was privatised there are several companies offering it.

In SA the only insurance you HAVE to have is the third party person one which comes with your Rego. You don't have to have third party property. Stupid I know, but the way it is.

I hope you get fined and get your licence taken away. Having Rego but not bothering with Insurance is one thing, not having Rego and therefore not having CTP is totally unacceptable for every single other person on the road/pavement.

If you're unregistered for more than 30 days you also become uninsured (CTP runs out) and you have to go to court. Can't drive the car at all.

If you're caught unregistered within the 30 days of rego running out then you're just unregistered (still insured) and get a fine and a permit to drive (which allows you to drive from that location to x place, eg home, within a given timeframe, eg 20 mins if that's how long it should take to drive directly there). Then you can only drive again once you've paid the rego.

If you're uninsured for more than 30 days your plates get cancelled and police would remove them from your car. And obviously you can't drive it.

Think yourself lucky you were caught and being dealt with like this rather than because you were in a crash and unreg/uninsured. Because then you'd be ****ed.

legally there is no reciprocal agreement with countries outside Australia to receive demerit points. If a person from the UK was issued with a ticket, then the Police have the option of issuing a warrant for an unpaid traffic fine but I have never know of this to occur...

.. with that said; don't be a twat and drive a car thats legal. driving a legal powerful car is realtively very cheap in aus.. ..taking risks in your own life is one thing, but on the roads your everones problem buddy

..if you get any decent fully comp policy (by the month) these days and read the pds properly - it aint to0 shabby.. for example; if you broke down in the middle of nowhere then you can claim hotel expenses on a lot of policies these days.. niiice
