Hi 👋 this is my first post on here! I've have been silent for some time as most people end up doing trying to gather as much information as possible.
A bit of a background on myself and my partner, he is a plumber with 8.5 years work experience, including 1.5 work years experience in Australia we are both currently sponsored in NSW on a medium term 482. Almost one year into this visa.
My partner did his skills assessment with Vetassess, which we have now converted his OTSR into a provisional plumbing licence...
Now, of course as I'm sure you are all in the same situation, at the moment with the current lockdowns we are just desperate to try and get PR ASAP.
He did an IELTS English test to boost his points but unfortunately he got a 6.5 in reading and a 7 in all of the other categories.. you need a 7 in ALL of the categories to gain points on a 190 visa. Now because of lockdowns the test centres are closed and we don't know when they will re open.
So we have kind of put an EOI for a 190 on the back-burner at the moment as we only have 75 points. For a 189 we only have 60 points which also isn't enough.
Next option for us would be to apply for a 186DE. Which we think we are able to do HOWEVER.. the licencing rules for a 186 are a person must be licenced for their occupation (which they do for a plumber) and that licence must allow work without supervision. With a provisional licence which is what my partner has now he MUST work under supervision.
We are thinking about using an RPL to gain his certificate 3 so he doesn't have to work supervised to bypass this rule in the 186. We have been in touch with a company called 'Accredify'. Does anyone have experience with them ?
At this point we don't really know how to move forward as gap training isn't an option with the current lockdowns.
Would love to hear from any plumbers in NSW who have experienced this. There was a lady on here named ' Lisa-93' the plumbers wife, who had some very informative posts but I didn't see any conclusion for her story !
I hope you are all keeping safe and sane ! Dani and ðŸ‘ðŸ˜

My advice would be to speak to a good registered migration agent to go through options.
