Please help re: Cleaning soil/dirt off stuff
Hi All,
Before I contact AQIS (quarantine lot) I was wondering if anyone had experience of taking pots over to Aus.
We have a number of glazed garden pots collected over the years and would really like to take them with us. Just concerned how to clean all the soil out of them to the satisfaction of AQIS.
I know about, lawnmowers, wood, garden tools, hiking boots, bicycles, etc, just wanted if anyone had expereince of garden pots????
If a bit rambling, apologies, now on second bottle of auusie wino.

Hi Nigel,
We invested in a pressure washer for all garden tools etc which the movers (Brittania) recommended. As long as there are no traces of soil/grass then it will be fine. Use a scrubbing brush if necessary. I have pressure washed all tools and painted with hammerite - a lot of work but they look good, and apparently if customs open 1 package and see that a good effort has been made they may not open anymore - apparently!!!
hope this helps, bevo

We pressure washed the outdoors objects (including some very old garden ornaments)
washed them in Jeyes fluid and wrapped them in plastic. The Customs opened the backs,
took one wiff of the Jeyes fluid and them in. I think as long as all the soil is
removed, tools painted with Hammerite and the Customs know you have done your best
there will not be a prob.

Bevo, Russell,
Many Many thanks re the tips on Hammerite and Jeyes Fluid. Got the power washer but hadn't thought of those two extras. Just started cleaning the strimmer and may need to buy some toothbrushes to get those tricky crannies clean.
Talking of tricky crannies, Balbutts, don't put Jeyes fluid on your gussets :scared:
