The OP said 'they couldnt see a problem' because there were codes for DVD players. There have always been region codes for DVD players becuase it lets them set them up to work in different markets (thats the mfctrs excusewhen the DVD police ask them why they are selling these boxes ) but PS2 has always been locked and unlockable except with hardware modification or using a specific comercially available disc - which I think I read is now not available after the company got caned for it . So the OP didnt say they'd actually done it - just that they'd unlocked DVD players with codes. To get a PS2 multi region you need DVD Region software or a mod-chip fitted. The Mod Chips all allow copied games. So if you're not into copied games (you need some beefy PC SW to do that its not just swap + copy) then its cheaper to go buy a DVD player here in woolworths for like 50 bucks than frig about with the PS2. |
Re: Playstation 2
Friends of my son had used the codes on their PS2 however we have only needed them for a DVD player. I have, however lost the exact website that he used but I do know that he did a search on google and found several lists of codes and just played around until he found the right thing for us. I have no clue about whether any extra chips etc are needed as all that you are doing is making the DVD player multi regional (havent a clue if that affects the games). I will check with my son whenever he surfaces from his pit and let you know as I am not particularly technical  . The codes just allow you to access the menu that the manufacturers use to set the region codes as most machines are only single region because they set them up as that before selling them.

Interestingly enough, if memory serves me right, then the Australian supreme court ruled last year that it was legal to get consoles chipped for multi region and copied disc use, unlike the UK, where it is technically illegal. L x Its illegal to chip PS2s in Australia It is not illegal to chip Xbox's. I found this out today after looking in whitepages for a xbox chipper ! This is because the aussie courts ruled that Gates has enough money and wouldnt miss a few quid, whereas Sony being a close neighbour obviously needed the dosh. |
Re: Playstation 2
We have used unchipped x box and playstation two here without any problems and bought games for both. However, don't think we have tried to watch Aus dvd's on them just UK. Only thing we def ran into problems with was psp as it plays Aus games but not Aus DVD's have just bought a programme that converts them for you so hopefully can watch off memory stick.

L x Yes you should be fine. I have done some digging to find the original article and you can read it here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/4315172.stm So, if you have a chipped station or Xbox, then bring them with you and they will be perfectly legal. S |
Re: Playstation 2
We got told all sort of rubish by Aus shops about how we couldn't buy Aus games turned out to be totally untrue.
