There is a new train line being planned and I think its going all the way to rockingham so its good investment area but still pricey like the rest of Perth.

Depends what your after really, do a search of the forum and you will find heaps of threads on the subject.

We did a short reccie to the Rockingham area. We stayed in Rockingham but alos travelled to Safety Bay, Warnbro, Marandurah & Secret Harbour. All within 5-25mins away from Rockingham and liked them all but we have decided we are heading for Secret Harbour.

Lots of choice for resonable priced houses and lovely beaches. Lots of building work going on, good choice of schools and hospitals.

Just need the bloody visa now

Hi,
Rockingham is like a small UK seaside town for holiday makers with a bloody great big oil refinery and heavy industry next to it... personally i wouldn't want to live there...maybe further south or North in Coogee

Secret Harbour is soon to have a change of name to "Little Britain"

That's where they all go

can still see the industrial bit from the coogee coastline tho!!
i live in port kennedy and when we go to rockingham foreshore i just dont look at the industrial bit- simple -and i dont think its an oil refinery its a grain terminal
the trainline has now opened and is making commuting to perth and above far easier. my son works in osborne park and gets the train now- much easier for him and takes less time too.

Apparently there has been an oil refinery there (Kwinana) since 1955, the grain terminal is the largest in the world and there are aluminium and Nickle refineries there as well

If you don't mind living near to all that big industry then fine.. it is also as flat as a gnats arse which again if you like that then fine.. Shame Garden island is off limits. There are loads of Dolphins of the coast there so the water is probably fine.

The positive point about Rockingham, incl Secret Harbour, Warnbro, Port Kennedy and Safety Bay is that the weather is so much better than any more beautiful suburbs further inland. When we had the hot temperatures lately, it was 8 degrees less here. It's ideal if you love water sports. On the other side, some areas in Rockingham are a bit rough.

Most of Rockingham are old houses, but it slowly changes its face. More and more new townhouses are built, and new estates like The Anchorage appeals to many people who want to live near the ocean without the need of a large backyard to look after.

Most Brits prefer to live in Secret Harbour, because it is a newer suburb, with new schools, golf course, a new shopping centre and the likes. However, that's about it, like any other new suburbs, just houses.

I personaly prefer Settlers Hill, in the Rockingham shire. It looks beautiful, has good schools, is very close to the freeway and not far to the new train station. Across of it the first phase of a larger shopping Centre has been completed and the beach can be reached in 10 min.

The hospital is getting a facelift at the moment, it will be 3 times as large as it is now and more specialist doctors will practice down here. This in mind, the councel is aware that it has to improve services and opportunities for people in the area as so far doctors were reluctant to come down to Rocky and we have to travel for special appointments to Perth. There is a feel of go, go, go in the area, things are changing all over the place at the moment.

With the new train running now, you are in Perth in 35 min, everybody loves it. And if you buy a family pass, 2 adults and up to 5 children can travel on the train the whole day for $8.10 (after 9am) right up to Joondalup (no changing trains), what more do you want? I usually never drove to Perth, but since we have the train, I have been twice to Perth. It really makes a big difference to peoples live.

In response to comments regarding the refinery and other industries. It is not so that you are living next to door to these, neither does the wind blow constantly towards Rockingham. People who do not live here will be surpised if they see the mansions built at the foreshore with view towards the grain terminal (the refinery can't be seen). What I can't understand, people want all and everything that a refinery at the end produces but carry on with the "not in my backyard" attitude. Don't let those comments put you down. Think about the people who live in Fremantle who have to put up with the smell of sheep when a carrier is in town, not funny at all, and that goes on for weeks.

Although in Wellard which belongs to Kwinana and is as close to the refineries as Rockingham, huge developments are under way and blocks are snapped as they come onto the market.

Most of the Brits tend to move to a few areas, close to the ocean, were everything is new but sterile, big houses with pool and no space for a tree. They come here with a tunnel view.

Hope this helps

There is some seriously heavy industry down that way - and it is undergoing massive expansion. The first clean-coal power station in Australia is planned for this area.

I think the beaches to the south of Perth are nicer than the beaches to the north.

I agree although neither are as nice as those in the Western Suburbs.

There is a grain terminal but the oil refinery is also visable from Rocky beach, my hubby works there.
