pingpong???
We need help , we left oz two years ago after obtaing PR, to come back to UK to sell our house, which we did quite quickly. But we are still in the UK in a rented house, we can not decide if we want to return to OZ (I did have a job to go to but had to turn it down when we could not decide what to do).
The weather here is crap!! what happened to the british summer???? Sould we give OZ another go our lives feel like they are on hold, not settled her but not sure if we sould go back. |
Re: pingpong???
Do a search for pingpongs. There are stacks of people both here and there who have done it or doing it. It's a tough one to advise on because obviously everyone is different. If you still have that itch and can afford to scratch it then go for it, if you're happy and settled and it's only the weather bothering you then don't.
Sorry not very helpful. Do do a search though, may make things clearer. |

We are headed back on 3rd Nov. More nervous this time as now have 2 school age kids to think about. Indeed, as I am typing it has started to rain again. Good luck with your decision - not sure what the answer is - we know 1 thing - we are not happy with our lives here and we were happier there.:) |
Re: pingpong???
Yup me too a ping pong pom and still in the UK. I can honestly say that the weather here at the moment is terrible. I too think what has happened to the summer. A right shocker.

Re: pingpong???

Any advice on taking elderely relatives back would also be gratefully received as I dont know what visa we could take him back on as he's 78:( |
Re: pingpong???
We spent 18months in Australia and have been back for less than a year. Heading back over in 2 weeks for good! Coming back to the UK helped us confirm that will were happier in Australia and believe we will be happier there in the future.
Major issue for us was the close family and friends we're leaving behind. Guilt plays a big part in that we feel, and sometimes you have to be a bit selfish for the sake of you and your family. At the end of the day if it is feasible to return without majorly stalling your life's plans, I think its better to take the leap if you're wondering, rather than live life thinking what if. Whats the worst that can happen......go back to the UK again knowing Australia is not for you. |
Re: pingpong???
I pingpongd as a child with my parents and then again as an adult – done the shift back and forth 9 times so far and I’m only 23! (Don’t ask)....Move number 10 is coming up next year, lol hopefully the last!
You never know unless you go. If you come out to Oz and can’t settle again, you can always go back (what ping ponging is all about, lol). Or if you are not sure about coming back, sit down and work out the reason why you left the first time? Why didn’t you settle? A lot of people come here, doesn’t work out and go back to the UK only to realise that Australia wasn’t that bad after all and then come back again, you’re not alone. Doing a pong pong can also sometimes make you realise which one you really want and can also make you appreciate it more. Also, if you’re not happy in the UK but not sure about Australia, what about somewhere else? The world is a big place, plenty of other countries. Or maybe a different city in Oz this time? Good luck. Going to Wales to say goodbye to MIL next weekend (early I know but she doesn't do travelling !!!!!!!). I'm more excited about buying a camper trailer - we have ordered a Jayco which will be ready for when we get there - guess where we will be spending Christmas ! Still cr@pping myself but that is only normal. Can't wait :D |

Re: pingpong???
This post is on the money for us. We feel like going home (UK) quite regularly then other days we don’t give it a thought. Can’t help but wonder when the feeling goes. What happens if it never does? In some ways this could have been the worse decision of our lives. If we did go back would we feel unsettled back in the UK and long for Oz again? Quite possibly. Has this emigration thing opened a huge can of emotional worms? Life seems so temporary at the moment we even have boxes in the garage that we haven’t unpacked yet and that’s after 3 years. Its funny though some days are big up’s and others are big downs. I guess its just that grass being greener on the other side thing again and some days you feel like you just shouldn’t have mowed it at all.:huh:

Re: pingpong???
My best advice for you is to stay where you are, unpack everything and treat it like home, I know you will always have the UK in your heart as home, but believe me, we were exactly like you and didnt fully unpack saying we would stay a yr then see, looking bk we knew all along we were just waiting for that yr to be up to have the excuse to come bk, and yes you will still have the pull to go bk to OZ if you return, I promise you that, I swore it was the worst thing I ever did in my life but you remember what was there for you & the kids, the lifestyle they have the friends they made and you do regret bringing them bk when they were settling but it was you who was`nt! hope this helps you decide. In the grand scheme of things 3 yrs really isnt long either to put roots down, it may take a life time however if you are serious about living in OZ you ahve to fully throw yourself into it, that means unpacking all your boxes haha
