Do you mean this area below, Carindale.?.. pic taken off a display home village called - "Pine Mountain Carindale
Display Home.
If so I can't help you... I used to live in the Cannon Hill area south side which is not too far a drive to get to Carindale (used to shop at Carindale sometimes)
I can't really comment on the real "liveability" of the Carindale area if that's the area you are talking about. I only know it in passing.
cheers

As far as we understand Pine Mountain is 30 minutes drive from Brisbane CBD.
Oh dear, nobody seems to know much about Pine Mountain. We are going to look at a house there this afternoon - will let you know the outcome.

What I really meant was that from what little I know you may find Brisbane suburbs more attractive than Ipswich. Not met a Brisbanite with much positive to say about Ipswich. If you're after acreage you should still achieve this a little closer in, say Pullenvale or Brookfield.

Ipswich also gets warmer weather in the summer, and colder in the winter because of the inland proximity.
If you want some quiet, decently priced suburbs.. have you thought of looking at the areas in Brisbane North.
What about renting first in Ipswich? Just to see if the area suits you before buying into something. That way you can also look around Brisbane, get a feel for the place.
Cheers

When we were looking round the south side estate agents did not recommend Ipswich - sorry can't remember why. We have now bought on the north side - settlement in 21 days!

Good luck
Good luck in your house and area searches.
We are really thinking of moving to the area you are looking at so would love to hear your experience of it all.

Pine Mountain was remote but the house was amazing. It was a huge 5 bedroomed house on 3 acres and it was all immaculate, double brick. The long driveway was lined with palm trees and it had beautiful views. The vendor was asking in the region of $385 000. It was at least 40 minutes from Brisbane CBD.
At the moment we quite like the south west suburbs. The areas are lush although your average plot with house would be about 600 square metres. We are looking for not less than 800 square metres and they appear to be few and far between. It is definitely a sellers market because properties are being snapped up but like many immigrants we should be in a good position because we are cash buyers. Our budget is around $430 000 and we've been told that between $250 000 and $450 000 there are less properties available. We have managed to view no less than 10 properties this week.

Hi Ceri
Which areas were you referring to in the North? Did you mean Albany Creek or something near to Brisbane CBD such as Wavell Heights? Can you recommend 'The Gap'?
We think Albany Creek is as far North as we should go could if we are commuting to Brisbane although the road doesn't seem to be that good, traffic lights etc. compared to the southern suburbs such as Westlake (an area we loved).
Do people use the train in the northern areas for commuting to Brisbane CBD? We thought that the gateway motorway road was a good fast road so perhaps we should be looking for suburbs near to that road? Perhaps then we could even think about going further North?
All advice given is very much appreciated.

We have looked into commuting from Samford, not too far from Albany Creek, and you would drive to Ferny Grove train station and catch the train into the CBD. They run quite often and the agencies I have spoken to say this is the way to do it. We have driven from south side to north nearly everyday recently because we have bought on the north side and are renting on the south side - day time it isn't too bad but work hours is another story. Parking fees in the CBD are incredibly high - we parked in town for a couple of hours and paid around $16. It would work out expensive parking in town every day. The commuter car park at Ferny Grove is free. The gateway motorway does not take you directly to the CBD. Eagle Farm which is to the east off Gateway motorway is murder to get to in working hours as well.
Hubby has got a job in Northgate, off Gateway Motorway. He starts Monday and will be travelling up from southside so we will see what the roads are like then. This will only be for a couple of weeks as we will then be in Samford and he will travel across country.

Forgot to say that we looked round The Gap and were not impressed. We looked there as we liked Ferny Grove primary school and The Gap is close by. It is very much a city suburb - no acreage.
