Can I use a british landline phone in OZ? Are the conectors the same or can I get an adapter?

I'm thinking of buying a videophone so we can chat & see friends & family.

Hi!!

I think someone on a previous post mentioned you can buy an adaptor or new cable from Dick smith to allow you to use your existing phone!!

We have packed our phone anyway

Hope this helps!!!

Why take your existing telephone??

Australia, sell phones, in fact we sell some pretty sexy phones. Mines a 2.4 ghz Uniden. Wasnt expensive.

As far as im aware, the 5 essential cables within phone systems for uk, are for the system x system, and carry 50v dc. Im not sure thats compatible with oz.

Good luck n e ways

I probably wouldn't buy a videophone as the technologies used may be different plus I would expect you will only be able to chat to people with a videophone and I don't think many people have them. How about using Broadband and web cams to see each other?

We use Skype and a web cam. Unfortunately we can't do them at the same time as it's to broken up.
I am not sure about videophones but I would be interested in hearing from those with them.
Skype works well with a head set and it's free

We use Skype for audio - without headphones, and if you start up msn messenger with the webcam, you can invite someone just for the webcam only - that way you get both at the same time - for free!

Some friends bought 2 video phones from the UK, and they also work fine.

I'm trying to get my new Broadband up and running using my year-old Virgin (Thomson) adsl modem, but with no success. The ISP has been helpful but we can't find a way of setting the VPI and VCI numbers (whatever they are!) It's a Speedtouch 330 - anyone made it work here?

Try this Rog, http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum...s.cfm?t=236265 last post on the thread. If it doesn't work PM me and I'll see if I can find out any more info for you

As for Aussie phone connections have a look here: http://britishexpats.com/forum/showp...0&postcount=12

Looks like UK phones will work over here (digital ones anyway) see: http://www.aussiemove.com/aus/chatConvP.asp?t=3666

Gee, thanks FB! I went out this afternoon and bought a DLink modem! (Trouble installing it - it appeared to destroy my ZoneAlarm installation - I ended up doing several System restores to ever earlier points. Must have rebooted ten times during the exercise. Anyway, ADSL now online!
