Default Phone interview - aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh

I'm expecting a phone interview any morning (Mon-Fri) at 7am.
An nursing agency has arranged this, with my consent ofcourse, in the kinda field of nursing that I enjoy.
I have years of experience in a Urology unit but this phone interview is for a Medical/Surgical/Urology unit.
Don't know the last time I worked in a Medical ward!
Point being.....should I just accept the job if offered?
(its a 12-24 month contract)
.....check out the jobs when I get there?
.....wait until a Urology only unit vacancy arises?
BTW, the hospital is in the Nedlands area, Perth.

BTW, what will they ask/expect from a phone interview????

Thanks in advance,
Shona xx

Unless there is big cash insentive why bother , there is a lot of nursing jobs here no need for a contract when you have PR visa .The Medical wards get a mix and you could be in for heavy lifting not quite the same as UK , these are the wards that find it hardest to get staff also Hospitals varies in working conditions and state of wards .
You will find a job easy when here don't tie yourself down to something you have not seen , relax you can be choosy no rush.

As it happens, another poster Ian Guy gave this advice today which you may not have seen:

On telephone interviews -

1) Use the net and do your research. My background is health, so I downloaded docs
from the Ministry of Health site and highlighted what I felt was relevant
(think 'transferrable skills' that gets you around not knowing the system). I
also checked out as much as I could about the area, the hospital, etc. When
asked a question I often had the answer in my hands. If you are in other
industries this would also apply, just do the legwork. Also be frank about the
changes that will affect your life (e.g the big move) but demonstrate you have
thought it all through.

2) When the intro's are being done write the names of the panel down, as well as
their job roles - this may help in terms of answering questions and the direction
they are looking. Also when they say "I'll now pass you to our general manager"
you can say, "Hi jim, how are you, etc..." so it shows you are on the ball.

3) I f the line is bad, e.g. lag, tell them - it seriously affects the process.

4) The biggest problem of the phone interview is getting feedback - you can't see the
non-verbals. Don't be afraid to ask - "is that what you were expecting to hear?"
if there is a pregnant pause. Also, they may say at the end "how has this gone?" -
be frank, tell them that without the NV's it is hard to assess. After a couple
you'll have a feel for how it has gone.

Hi Shona
I had one for the job in Brisbane, it was all very friendly and informal. She didn't ask me anything technical, it's a private hospital and she was mostly interested in how you would deal with complaints etc.It seemed to be a bit of a formality just to make sure you're not a complete moron! I needed the job offer to reach 115 points otherwise I might have waited until we get there.Saying that it's one thing less to do when we arrive.
Good Luck
Susan
PS I have a good friend (also Scottish) who runs her own agency in Perth.I can put you in touch if you want.
