I did not know that. I just assumed it was the good stuff. Not that it matters to my little Mazda :D

Yeah it is cheaper but it still pisses me off paying 20c more here than down south, when the stuff passes by / through here on the way. There's no reason it should be cheaper, except that there's less competition.

At this point, I always point out that you drive at significantly more economical speeds....:thumbsup:

Apart from the road I live in I can get around at the weekend driving at 80odd ( as per the posted limit). No stop and start and endless 50/60s.

It's more popular in the bush but in areas where peple who need it have their own tanks anyway. Diesel is growing as petrol prices rise so I suspect we'll see more diesel pumps in future.

Whereas here closer to the city I get the diesel pumps to myself most of the time.

I think most cars are designed for 95 octane +
They just make do with 91, ie engine management system detects crap fuel and de tunes the engine.

Is that why a powerful Australian family car needs to be c. 4000cc?
Never quite understood that. European cars that have a bit of poke might be not much less than 2500cc-3000cc.

not necesarily true I often have to travel over 100 miles in a day for work (travelling to and from) can't see that been a norm unless you want to live somewhere thats not convenient for work
