Petrol Stations

Why do the all petrol stations here in Perth only seem to have ONE diesel pump?
:frown:Its a bloody nightmare!

Same here in QLD, very few diesel pumps compared to premium or super. I wait 20 mins at the local Woolies sometimes:thumbdown:
I expect they will increase in popularity as more economic diesel cars become available.

Historically diesel hasn't been popular so I guess a lot of servos have only needed to cater for commercial vehicles. It's more popular in the bush but in areas where peple who need it have their own tanks anyway. Diesel is growing as petrol prices rise so I suspect we'll see more diesel pumps in future.

Another bugbear.................... why is diesel so bloody expensive in comparison to petrol? :curse:

Production cost to manufacture diesel are much lower than that of petrol?:confused:

A friend of mine works for Ausfuel and reckons that bio-diesel is going to become a bit cheaper in the near future.

It varies by state. Currently about $1.16 / litre in Brisbane, a little higher in Sydney & Melb and $1.34 up here (grrrr robbing bastards  ).

It's roughly the same here in Perth........ actually it's been a bit lower than normal these last couple of weeks.

I pay a bit more when filling up the Jag because i try and stick to manufacturer's recommendation which is BP Ultimate which is dearer than the rest.

On the odd occasion i couldn't find a BP station........ i have filled up with whatever brand was available.............. and have noticed a slight decline in performance. Whether that's fair dinkum......... or imagination due to a physiological effect with me straying from manufacturer's advice....... I'm not sure?

What's a mechanic's take on that?

Top Gear did a study a while ago comparing Shell Optimax to supermarket fuel and found a huge difference. I've got an old Mazda 323 and usually stick with regular but occasionally put in Shell Optimax / Caltex Vortex and like you I'm not sure whether the perceived performance difference is real or not.

Try Gull, they usually have more than one diesel pump. I use their B20 bio-diesel as it's a bit cheaper - currently $1.23.

Wish it was that cheap in england. you guys only pay about half what we do per litre. Another reason to add to the why I want to emigrate list.

91 octane in the US is ,i believe, the equivalent of uk 95 ron.

Octane levels are probably measured in this way for the oz market?

Re: Petrol Stations

Nope. You get 91 ( standard) 95 (plus ) 98 (super) But Caltex vortex is a con, super, but only 95 octane, not good if you drive a turbo.
