Perth vrs. Cairns
Hi All,
We are currently weighing up offers of employment from both Perth and Cairns. But we can’t actually decide where to go! We have had the benefit of visiting Cairns on holiday but not Perth.
We are a 26 year old couple with no kids and have been living in Wellington for the past 2 years.
Anyone care to share their opinions/ experiences on these cities?
Thanks in advance!

Cairns relies heavily on tourism. Unfortunately the relative strength of the AUD, and the current state of many economies across the world, has resulted in people taking less holidays. Cairns has been hit pretty badly.
On the other hand, Perth's economy is supported well by mining and associated works.
From a purely economic viewpoint, it would be reasonable to say that you'll have a far better chance of getting employment in Perth, than you will in Cairns right now. But that is just a broad statement looking at "the big picture". It really depends on your area and what kind of work you do.
Have a search through some old threads - there are plenty of useful posts that describe life in Perth / life in Cairns.
good luck !
