Default Perth Schools

Perth Bound people

We've done a lot of research on Senior and Primary schools for our 3 (ages 12, 8 and 6) in Perth. Happy to share what we've got, I will send out privately in word doc to those interested. Just in the process of arranging visits to them when I'm out in November.

Basis info is we've whittled it done to 5 SHS, Duncraig, Carine, Ocean Reef, Churchlands and Peter Moyes (in Mindarie). For the Primarys we're down to Sorrento, Marmion, Poynter, Poseiden, Ocean Reef and possibly Lymburner. Peter Moyes does yr 1 right thru' to yr 11.

Each to their own but our criteria was Northern Suburbs, walking distance to both Primary and SHS schools and beachside suburbs or at most, one suburb away from coast.

I'll post my findings once I've actually been to see them, but if anybody wants access to some of my research just shout. If anybody has any initial comments regarding these over and above whats been posted (seen a few comments re Duncraig SHS) then info gratefully received.

Hi Finch

I have a son who is 5, will be almost 6 by the time we get to Perth, so your info for this age would be really useful!
Why did you want northern suburbs? Is that because of the league tables?

Wanting to live near the coast is a key factor for us. Not so much the primary schools, but we require a SHS for our eldest and the SHS south near the coast haven't really got us enthused. Some good ones in land a a bit, particularly Rossmoyne, but they have a strict catchment area and can be costly to reside there.

Are you email details with Grub?(who is holding details of quite a few families heading to Perth). Otherwise send me a private message within this forum with you direct email details and I'll forward what I have.

We've whittled it down to Ocean Reef & Lymburner too.

Ocean reef has a cool nautical theme and the staff at Lymburner were very firendly and showed us around.

See you there for the start of the next school year.

My two go to Duncraig SHS. We all like the school. Good school spirit, and camaraderie. Great chaplain - young cool bloke whom the kids really relate to. Great principal. Not one of those types who sit in the office pushing paper around. Always present, wandering the grounds, keeping an eye on things, always available to chat with. He's a major reason why Duncraig's risen from an alright school to one with a well known good reputation. Population of less than 1000 so it's not too big. I attended a high school with almost 2000 kids. Hated it. Felt lost.

They've got a good ATP (Academic Talent Program) in Maths and Sciences, for gifted and talented students. Students do a test in Year 7 to qualify for it. Other schools that have this: Craigie, Governor Stirling, Kelmscott, Shenton College, Willetton. There's also ATP programs in Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Arts in different schools.

One below the ATP is the SBAE - School Based Academic Extension program. If your child doesn't get a place in the ATP, they may be offered one in the SBAE. A bit more advanced, more homework, smaller class sizes in - Maths & Sciences.

They're slowly air conditioning the school thru fundraising mostly. Nice, large open grounds. Good facilities.

Sorrento Primary was a good school for my kids too. Son was only there for last 2 months but daughter was there for 2 years. Fit right in immediately, thanks to care and attention by principal and teachers. Lovely feeling to the place, another really good principal. Very active and fun P&C (parent group).

My two cents worth,

Helena

Can't find a Teresa on Nickys latest Perth Spreadsheet. I've sent her the info anyway and asked her to see if she has your details. You may want to send them again anyway.

I am planning on moving to Perth if my application is successful, and would appreciate it if you could forward me your info. My son is 4 at the minute, and would expect him to be nearly 6 by the time we get out there, so will be starting primary school.

Any info you can send will be much appreciated.

Cheers

I've got children at Peter Moyes and at Mindarie Primary if anyone wants any info on those schools I'll do my best.

What about Kinross college and then Mindarie Senior High for years 10-12, they weren't on your list.
