Perth - Satellite City??
Hi guys
I've heard that Perth are developing a satellite city in the North, which should be finished next year. Can anyone give me any more info on this? We're thinking housing should be cheaper there, and although its further north, shouldn't be a problem once all usual amenities around.
Any info at all will help, even name of a suburb? Found out from a friend of a friend over there....half a tale as usual??!!!
Cheers,
Karen

Re: Perth - Satellite City??
Somerley / Clarkson area is nearing completion housing-wise. Jindalee is starting to go up.
30 years ago Whitfords was about the edge of the city and end of the train line. Then it was extended to Joondalup and now it runs to Clarkson.
They seem to build the houses & primary school first, then a retail area / high school and extend the freeway / railway when it is fully populated. The state govt has already spoken about extending freeway / rail to Yanchep as a vision. But for the time being the freeway is currently being extended to Kinross (2008) and the railway has just been announced to Jindalee - probably in about 4 years.

cheers guys,
Karen

Re: Perth - Satellite City??
We are in Carramar and I wouldn't want to be any further north; maybe a burb or two closer if we ever move. Perth isn't like the UK where, for example: Birmingham has Coventry, the Black Country, Solihull, Leamington Spa and hundreds of other satellite towns. Outside Perth city and its surrounds there isn't much going on - you need to get into the city for most of the action.

Not sure about the tavern and drive thru now. Apparently there was some objection about the validity of the petition. I am waiting to here more. (They were cheeky - the petition asked who wanted a tavern not who wanted a tavern and bottle shop)

True about 10 years, if slightly exaggerated. Another reason why I think it is a good buy.

Re: Perth - Satellite City??
I seem to remember a story about a councillor of some sort being filmed receiving a manilla envelope under the table a couple of years ago. Claremont possibly?
Any idea how you go about getting one of these gigs? I suppose you need citizenship first.

Re: Perth - Satellite City??
Well the deputy mayor is on extended leave (unpaid) since the Brian Burke corruption commission a few months back. The local rag reported this week he is considering standing for the mayorship. It did cross my mind that the development guys seemed so keen to rubber-stamp it too.
