Perth or Melbourne??
Hi everyone.
We are at the beginning of our long visa process, and were convinced Perth was where we wanted to go, but after reading a few threads(negative) on here we are now not so sure, so are also now considering Melbourne, so we are just looking for a bit of advice as we are so confused!!!
We have 3 children-11, 10 and almost 6, so schools are important. I am a nurse and John is a health and safety advisor. We are mainly concentrating about job opportunities for john, we notice in Perth the jobs available are mailnly in the mines, which he has no experience in, whereas Melbourne the job opportunities seem more varied, we just seem to be going round in circles, so i think we need a bit of advice!!!
Many thanks
Claire x

My opinion only..
BUT
With hand on heart and having lived in both cities I would go Perth everytime.
Much better for the kids and you and hubby will have no probs with finding work - Perth is booming right now not just in the mines and recource sectors
Cheers,
Deb

Thank you so much for that-it is great to know especially as you have lived in both. It is all so difficult making decisions about our futures from all the way from over here!!
Many thanks

Can you tell us a bit about how you found living in both places?

I just think Perth is a nicer place to live - much quieter and that can work against Perth - and often does - but if you want life style then I think Perth wins hands down.

Firstly, beware I live in Perth and am therefore totally biased .
I would not want to live in Melbourne, a city that prides itself on having 4 seasons in a day, brrrrr.
Absolutely love it in Perth.
There are certainly plenty of jobs here for nurses (so I am told). Don't know about health & safety, but Perth isn't "just" mines (my husband works for a large bank for example).

Not bad at all thanks. We could have done with pitting them first though as we have to take the pits out for the girls and it mashes up the olive a bit. But the girls can't stop talking about Coco and Bailey!!!

I am also a H&S advisor going to Perth, don't panic....plenty of jobs. Cousin works at coke and they are desperate for a H&S advisor or 2!!!
The problem is everyone goes to the mines because you can earn double but that leaves plenty of jobs in the city and surrounding areas.
Just go to seek.au and type in safety, more work than you can shake a boomarang at!!!!
The Western Austrailian paper on line is also good.
Can't comment on melbourne.....never been

Re: Perth or Melbourne??
Why should Melbourne get special attention
Everyone has an opinion on every city/state/river/shop whether they've set foot in Aus or not. That's why no one should take any notice of anyone elses choice of home in the hope of deciding where to live.
It's irrelevant where you or I live (or anyone) to anyone but you or I
