Blimey, theres that much of a difference between asking price & selling price??? Seriously, thats incredibly useful to know, thanks ast.

It's in dollars, remember. The above example is only knocking twenty grand sterling off.

I was looking at the percentage rather than the value. UK houses are running at about 96-97% of asking price, but $50k off a $550k is 91% of the asking price. That 5-6% could make a hell of a difference :D

I think most houses in the UK now are getting more like 5% knocked off them, although that might chill out now we're talking about 4% interest rates next year.

I hope it does for the sellers on here waiting to sell theirs before they can use their visa! We're in the extremely fortunate position of just having exchanged on ours today with a completion date of July

It may well be running at 95% now, Sept was about 97%, Oct 96% and HIPS introduction has done nothing for the market. Don't suppose you know of any websites for Aus that gives you the asking price against the actual sales price that we can monitor do you?

There's a few options.

Check out the sold properties on realestate.com.au

http://www.realestate.com.au/cgi-bin...ch?a=bhp&t=sol

..sometimes they list the exact selling price (probably only if the agent is really pleased with the outcome) and sometimes a very wide range (which doesn't help much).....occasionally the agent may have left the original asking price in the description part of the ad. My house is listed in the sold props and the actual selling price is smack bang in the middle of the range quoted though so that might be a guide.

Same goes for domain.com.au (and homepriceguide.com.au).
