Got a nice rental in Connolly nor - my advice, check out the private ones, we found less people fighting for them!
My husband soon found a job with a resonable starting wage. I suppose I should start looking!!!

Just need to start getting out to meet some folks now. Hope to go to Hillarys next Thursday.

Where are you heading?

Leeane

i love hillarys!!! i am new to this site (only joined last night), but seems really cool...do people that meet on this site actually meet up and stuff? my boyfriends sister and her boyfriend (stacey and ben) moved out in dec2005, and their 4 bed house has just been built, so we are very lucky that we can stay with them, as we are hoping to build ourselves! they live in sommerly. not sure of areas at the mo, and where everything is - is it close to sommerly???!

I can  but Perth has a lot going for it too, space, clean, beaches, it comes down to making the best of it. Plus all the jobs are here.

we're hoping to find somewhere NOR in either hillary's, sorrento or may be further up in Ocean Reef. We were there a few weeks ago and really had a good look round with a relocation agent. hear it's really hard at the moment though to get a rental? thanks for the tip

We're with this view. Most places have plus and minus' but for us it's the outdoors / climate that is a big part of it, olympic size swimming pools, cycling tracks everywhere and good weather should keep my triathlete hubby more than busy! me and the little fella get tired out just watchin :)

[QUOTE=When we 1st came on to this site North was the "in" place and Mandurah was just a retirement holiday place but that has all changed. People looked at us a little strangely when we said we were going to Mandurah (and that was just 2 yrs ago!!)
Mandurah is still being developped and has lovely restaurants, marina, dolphins.

Feel free to pm me anytime

When I first came on this site in 2001 and asked about Mandurah, nobody had heard of it. I think I found one post mentioning it, that was all! The only reason we picked the place was because all the I.T. jobs are in Perth and my sister lived in Bunbury, and it seemed ideally situated between the two.

With all these brickies moving to Mandurah, I hope I can find someone to build my new extension - any jobless brickies out there, contact me! Just waiting for the shire to approve, then we can get started.

In answer to another person's question, yes people from this site do get-together. We have met up with fellow expats from this board a few times. There is a weekly Wednesday morning meet at the Mandurah Dome cafe that OHippy organises, I haven't been yet but keep meaning to.

Have been in Mandurah now for nearly 5 years, any questions, feel free to PM me.

Hi Jacqui

we hope to be there by July latest, trying to fall within citizenship rules. We loved Mandurah and will be settling there. Its good to hear that there is a weekly meet, went to the one at Hillarys twice last year and they were fab and friendly. Will definitely make a trip to the Mandurah one when we get there. The Dome is good and with lovely views of the estuary/marina

We are open to areas and looked at houses between Port Bouvard and Madora Bay. We liked Port Bouvard but not sure if it just too far from the town centre although the Piazza was just getting built when we were last there in May. Jolly Frog is nice though. We have friends in Seascapes, Halls Head and Madora Bay.

Hope to see you at the meet one day soon.

NO, YOU'RE NOT! :D I guess it's the same with most people but up until a couple of weeks ago things have started to change, not with us so much as our friends & family! Once everyone was told or found out that we had been for medicals & should be getting visa(hopefully!) in the next 6 weeks or so, they are like " MY GOD! YOU REALLY ARE GOING TO GO!" it seems to have sunk in with them now!

I think before that, they were just thinking 'ah, let them have their little dream!' or something, I don't know,
perhaps they thought we were having them on

But because it's sinking in with friends & family, they have started asking loads of questions about jobs, houses & areas to live & it's started rubbing off on us! We keep thing "WOW! WE ARE REALLY DOING IT!!

Chris.

Can't believe you've been over there 5 weeks already! time is just flying by it seems! Hope everything is going well for ya, will send you a PM

Chris :)
