Perth or Brisbane
Hi All
We have been living in Perth for 2 years now and are considering a move to Brisbane. We've haven't visited the area as yet and it's difficult to know where to start when you think about relocating.
Can anyone please comment in general on how Perth compares to Brisbane?
We find Perth to be very expensive for food as the choice of supermarkets is limited. We also find it to be isolated and struggle to see how our girls aged 3 and 9 will make a good life for themselves here.
My husband is a mechanic so are there particular areas of Brisbane that we should look into? Is there a demand for mechanics? He used to have his own car sales in the UK, but in WA, you have to obtain a vehicle sales person license and a yard manager license before you can do this. Does anyone know if the same rules apply in Brisbane?
So many things to consider, therefore any comments would be much appreciated.

Lower salary and similar cost of living. Property isn't much different.

Re: Perth or Brisbane
I would suggest a reckie over to Brisbane, spend a bit of time looking around and seeing what is on offer.
Brisbane USED to have a rough small town feel to it with a reputation for rednecks. But over the last 10 years or so Brisbane really has pushed on and one would almost called it cultured, ok well lets not get ahead of ourselves 'a little more cultured but not on the same level as Sydney and Melbourne' would be a more appropriate desciption possibly.
Hard choice between Perth and Brisbane. I have been to both but never lived in either. I would probably stay in Perth, but if I lived in Perth I might be like you and want to move to Brisbane! Sorry that is no help at all is it!!!

Perth and Brisbane are very different in terms of weather and they have a different feel of the city.
A change is as good as a rest and you'll never really know unless you try and job prospects, there's as many chances here in Bris as there are in Perth.
Easy answer is theres no easy answer, maybe you just got to try mate

Hi
We came over to Oz earlier this year for a reccie and spent time in Perth, Sydney and the Gold Coast. When we got to Perth we thought - wow - this is lovely but we thought it had a lot of dry/arid areas. We went to Sydney (just to do the touristy bit) as we have friends in Perth and rellies in Gold Coast and knew we wanted to live in one of those.
When we arrived in Queensland we just knew it was the place for us! Beautiful lush greenery, gorgeous beaches and rain forests! We stayed in Pacific Pines which was 20 mins from the beach and then we were 35 mins from the rain forest. Both of which were amazing!
Good luck

Been in and out of Brisbane a few times over the last 19 years and recently moved here to Perth. In Brisbane you will find longer opening hours, higher average temperatures, more sunny days, be closer to more places you may want to visit or have friends (Cairns, Sydney, Canberra - just joking, Melbourne, snowy mountains). Population is higher in Brisbane but still not world class size so city traffic and shopping is not a worry. Perth has more beaches that are closer but more speed cameras and anal town councils (intent on making museums out of beaches and fining everyone who drives). Brisbane is further away from the UK in time zones too (by an extra two hours) but you get more airlines flying there so it can be cheaper to holiday in Asia. Perth is still a backwater in some respects and misses out on some big acts; though attending those concerts is consequently hassle-free. If you intend to buy above average cars you will find less choice in Perth too.
