Hiya everyone, new to this so bear with me. We have emmigrated to perth but find the place quite boring and theres not much to do, where in mandurah at the moment. We're gonna be going to brisbane in the next couple of monthe so we want a place thats lively and is good for families.(we've 3 girls, 9,6,2) we were thinking of noosa, so any suggestions from anyone would be a great help.

Re: perth to brisbane
Hi. Know what you mean about Perth!!;) My hubby wants to head off to the Gold Coast next year, as that is so lively. He's becoming pretty fed up with this place, just like me.
Look, I've never been over there and can only pass on what I've heard. Noosa is up on the Sunshine Coast, north of Brisbane, and it's a lot quieter than the Gold Coast. On the Gold Coast you don't have to live smack bang at Surfers paradise, there are supposed to be some beautiful areas around there. Have a look at the Bayside area too. That's south of Brissie and very popular with expats as a nice area and close enough to get to the fun life if you want to. |

Hi Guys, we put a thread on here the last couple of days we are doing the same thing too as we also feel that it is to quiet in Perth, had a relocation consultant out today to price how much it would cost for our belongings to be taken over, will let you know.We are currently living North of the river and are going to look down South to see if it is any busier there, but have been told it is also quite quiet there. Not sure what part of QLD we will be looking at ,but feel it has got to have more going on there ,although we think Perth is a lovely place.Good Luck Terri

Thanks tracey for that info i will definitely check it out. The reason why i said noosa was because, like you i've never been and i'd seen this place on the tv at home and it looked beautiful. We were originally gonna move further up north in perth but once we'd checked it out it is more boring than mandurah. The night life is none existence and i'm not saying we're party people, out till all hours but we feel that its lacking in a lot of things and its very very behind the times. What does your hubby do for a job and yourself. Have you looked into it a lot. Thanks again for the info and good luck with your move.

Hubby really does want to check out the Gold Coast. So much more to see and do than over here. I wouldn't want to live in Surfers, but at least we could go there for a 'mad one' if we wanted to. There's nothing here in Perth like that at all. It's all a bit bland for us, especially after this length of time doing the same old, same old every weekend. Get hold of a map of QLD. Find Brisbane and stick a pin in it. Then find Mount Tamborine, which is south and inland a bit, stick a pin in that. Then find just below Surfers and stick a pin in that. Anywhere between that triangle is where my hubby wants to investigate. |
Re: perth to brisbane
my husbands a bricklayer so we have to consider that when we do move, me-i'm a housewife as i have a young 'un to look after, i was gonna go back to tafe to study something for when she goes to kindi full time but the prices of the courses are soooo expensive. All i know is i can't stay here for much longer, you've done well to last this long. I have to admit when we first arrived we went to melbourne but only lasted 3months there as hubby couldn't get a job so we came over here-bad mistake! At least he's got a good job here and theres plenty of work but again its the 'happy thing'. Melbourne is nice but very cultural and very busy. The house prices there are so much cheaper and brisbane is even more cheaper. Here they have shot up a lot and thats why we've put off buying. We might leave it til after xmas and try and save as much as we can til then, then bye bye perth.

Re: perth to brisbane
if you read my thread 'distance comparison Perth/London' there is also a south qld map in that thread.
http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=431023 Noosa is about 2.1/2 hours north of Brisbane - well it was 12 years ago when I still lived there. I'm sure there will be someone along to tell me I'm wrong shortly :p Oh and I just got a quote moving Perth to Tassie, house 2 x cars dog and cat came to $10k but Tassie is a lot dearer for moving due to the crossing the strait |

There is some nightlife round-about but you can also go into town and get the last train home (just before 1am) so it's not so bad. We moved from Bris to Darwin and it cost us $4500 for a 20ft container - we did the packing and unpacking ourselves. |
Re: perth to brisbane
I'm not sure that Noosa is the place for you if you find Perth boring. Noosa is a beautiful place to visit but not exactly lively - its well known for catering for the more 'elite';)
Sounds like the Gold Coast (well South of Brisbane) would be a good place for you to check out, that too has beautiful places to live/visit with loads going on locally too. Good Luck:) |

I think that this experience, and being unhappy in Perth, has put me off trying anywhere else in oz if I'm honest.

The area you mentioned is really booming, I'm a relocation consultant and I'm helping people move into this area all the time. Good housing, good location, away from crazy Surfers (but you know the Gold Coast is not all about Surfers Paradise! here's some beautiful quiet beaches and safe inlets) you should come check it out. Can't believe you're thinking about going back to the UK...remember the rain, fog, sleet, wind, frost, traffic, expensive houses....do I need to go on...hee,hee You gotta do what makes you happy!
