Default Perth or Brisbane ?

Hi there,

Was just wondering if anybody could give us some constructive advice on whether to choose Perth or Brissie to emigrate to.

Had always planned to move over to Brisbane, but have just returned from 2 weeks holiday in Perth (& WA) in order to activate our visas. We really enjoyed Perth & surrounds and are now in two minds as to where to go.

Has anyone had first hand experience of both cities with regard to job opportunities (I'm an accountant), salaries, house prices, cost of living, dog-friendliness (we like to walk our 2 dogs off-lead), climate and general quality of life.

I appreciate it's all a matter of personal choice but any pointers would be welcome, as we really can't decide. In addition, does anybody know where we can get copies of Oz newspapers here in the UK ?

Perths going through boom stage property wise, keep that that in mind in long term decisons rest of OZ had this 2/3 years ago and its now settled down as all booms do.

Personally, could not live in WA, flies would drive me insane. I do find being a one hour flight from sydney useful, others have said that does not matter to them. Be aware that some very high wages are being quoted for WA at the moment, many of these jobs are in the outback mines tho!. Weather, bris gets its summer humidity, Perth gets colder wet winters and some high temps, although not many this year.

I think you also have to bear in mind that to holiday in one place, and thats what a validation trip really is in most cases, is one thing - to live in a city is entirely different.

I think Perth is great to visit. I would personally not want to live there. I enjoy Brisbane as I have easy access to the Gold Coast, Sunshine coast and flights to other cities (than Perth) dont cost me a fortune and am in car touring distance to anywhere on the East coast. Perth is too isolated for me..and the flies...well...

I would not want to live anywhere but Brisbane...but heck thats me and there are many people here who think that Perth is amazing. I just find Brisbane more amazing LOL.

Perth is too isolated for my liking.

Brisbane has a great climate, quite laid back and close to Gold Coast, Sunsine Coast.

We love it here

Would be Perth everytime, as a City Brisbane is a dump compared to Perth and its to isolated from any decent beaches. Plus it takes to long to get to Perth at the weekends.

Brisbane has a beach in town plus beaches at Straddie.GC<Sunshine coast. Not too far from the mountains.Moreton bay wonderful for boating plenty of rivers. My teens have been in both and prefer Brisbane for entertainment and Visiting rock stars.

Ditto (even if I don't actually live in Brissie. I would never ever go and live on the West Coast)

Forget perth and brissie, there are $8000 a week jobs going in Mount Isa, lovely place too, not too touristy, warm all year, working there is wonderful. Cheap housing and you'll love the locals.
