Re: Perth / Brisbane ?
I've been to both cities and if they were close together Perth would win. Biggest problem for me is the isolation of Perth from everywhere else, whereas Brisbane is pretty central and has a superb climate (except Jan and Feb when it is as hot as hell and very humid). I don't think either city will dissapoint you each has it's positives and negatives and only you can decide which will suit you best.

Re: Perth / Brisbane ?
The other thing to remember about Perth is that it recently scored very highly in the quality of life survey. Can't quite remember where it was but number 5 in the world seems to ring a bell.
Now, if a city that you're heading to is seen by an independent group as being the 5th best city in the world to live in (higher than Brisbane I seem to recall), then it can't be that much of a shithole can it? :) |

Cheers BD To the OP it's horses for courses. We live in Brisbane & havent ever been to Perth. Before reading this forum I always thought it sounded lovely over there - after reading some of the horror stories posted by people in Perth, I now have a different view (& no, I dont mean the horror stories that the traffic is bad or that the houses are close together or that people go to the shopping mall with no shoes  ) . But there are still plenty of people who absolutely love it there. Just like there are people who wont like Brisbane & others that love it. You really need to see both & to take into account lots of things (more than just whether there is a nice beach nearby ;) ) to make a decision. |
Re: Perth / Brisbane ?
With house prices in perth now catching up to melbourne and Bris prices I dont think there will be much of a contest soon.
Perths drawcard has only been cheap housing, unless you have personal reasons, family for eg. With prices rapidly approaching those of the eastern states I think perths lost its main attraction. |

Re: Perth / Brisbane ?
Is anyone really so stupid that they'd make a decsion between two completely different cities based on baises views of people who've only been to one of the places.
The OP is talking about moving with three kids in tow. You can't uproot their lives then realise you've made a mistake and move again. Book a holiday and invest a few weeks investigating for yourself. |

Perth is officially shut now as all the cheap houses are gone... please can you all make sure you change your plans and find somewhere cheaper to live. For those who've unfortunately had to struggle through times in Perth; I guess now our secrets out we should all start putting our houses on the market as we can all afford to sell up and move to Brisbane now, we'll all be eager to start packing up wont we.... ;) |

Re: Perth / Brisbane ?
but quality of life is arbitrary really. a 20yr old who wants pubs, pubs, more pubs, and extreme sports will have a different opinion on what is a quality life compared to a 40yr old with kids who is looking for a quiet life with a nice house, beach nearby will differ in his opinion!
