We are hoping to move to Perth later next year, and I keep coming across posts saying that it is a boring place to be. Just wondering, those who think there is not much to do there, what is it exactly that is missing? What does it not have that other Australian cities do?

well what do you mean by boring? I always wonder about people who think these things. You are thinking of a new home to live in- you are not going on holiday. Are you the sort of family/couple that go on daytrips/clubbing every weekend? In the Uk was EVERYTHING on your doorstep or did you take a drive to get to where you wanted-when you could afford the petrol? are you very active?
going fishing, windsurfing, diving, boating, walking, eating out, visiting local landmarks, going to markets, coffeshops, museums, festivals, cinemas, vineyards, sports with the kids/partner-surfing, swimming, cricket, football (both kinds) golf, teeball, volleyball etc etc etc.
Or are you the kind of peole that look forward to a relaxing beer by the pool after you have come home from work-(YES we DO have to work here), enjoying the guaranteed summer sun.
well I have to say that I miss the history of the the UK- I do love a good castle and the tv here is really awful but y'know I never had half of these options when I lived in the UK so is perth boring to me and my family?
No-life is what you make it.

Hi, I am currently in Perth and dont really find it boring. I have lived in adelaide and perth each for over a year.
I dont find perth any more boring than adelaide, just different. Perth is a much newer city than anywhere else in Aus and so it has a different feeling to it. Where as adelaide feels much more like a traditional UK city, just next to the sea, Perth is more spread out has better roads and public transport giving it a much more new world feel I guess you could say.
I have seen many posts here saying its boring but just havent found that. Think about you average day, you get up early go to work all day, come home spend time with family, do hobbies, watch tv, go out for a drink. People do the same things here as anywhere else.
The only reason some people may say its slower is possibly because things are more spread out, so unless you know where to go you might not find that bar, cinema, shops or whatever open. This is the same as anywhere, it takes awhile to find you way around.
The only thing I would wish for is later shop opening hours, at the minute the only late night shopping is Thursday night at the outter shopping centers (which are massive) and Friday is late night opening in the city center. I would personally like it if the shops were open every night late, but thats about all I would change
I dont find it boring here, I dont seem to have enough hours in the day to get everything done, just like back in england :P

Perth is not like London or New York where there are people, traffic, noise everywhere. Are there shops, clubs, pubs, cinemas? Yes. There is also lots of outdoor activities to partake in, like fishing, golf, tennis, rowing, watersports etc. However, the city is quite spread out with largish blocks of land so this adds to it's quiet reputaion. There just isn't the population density for Perth to be a really "vibrant" city. There are benefits to that, the roads are not that hectic and you don't get that 'squashed in' feeling. The city has enough going on that if you are prepared to make an effort and seek out like minded people, you will not get bored. Also, try to live close to the city, not in the "outer" suburbs, even if your house is not as nice or big.

Here is a good site that will give you an idea of the activities etc. you can expect to find in Perth and surrounding areas.

Well, I have to say it doesn't sound boring in the slightest, and I didn't really think it would be. Where we are at the moment, the nearest big city is about a 5/6 hour drive away, so I think we will find plenty to do in Perth.

There is plenty to do here in Perth and there is little time to do it all but that does not mean it is not boring. I like to think of it as quiet not boring.
It just lacks a "buzz" about it and I sometimes just want to kick Perth and some of the people who live here up the arse

Perth itself is great. Loads to do. The problem is with Perth aussies, they live in a world 2 decades behind the rest of the world....and don't want to change.
