Default perth arrival accommodation

Can't seem to find a reasonably priced place for a few weeks until we rent unfurnished and our stuff comes. Loathed to pay the tourist rates (coz we're nearly living there now and by the way I'm Scottish) and pomsinperth (of whom a few negative posts have put me off) haven't replied yet.
Anyone got any suggestions?
Three of us 'off the boat' on Jan 21st 04. Myself, Lesley and Matthew (aged 3 1/4).
Bring on Holland.

Unfortunately January is a busy time of year being school holidays and all that, plus it's very close to Australia Day (26th) which is a big day here, bigger than New Years Eve! Make sure you get down to the river for the Skyworks, you won't be disappointed.

As for accomodation I probably don't know of anything you haven't already searched for. It's been a year since I really looked around for this kind of stuff. There have been some new arrivals recently, hopefully they can post about where they have stayed.

Hi Juri

There are some fairly cheap deals on theses web sites which include B&Bs.

Hi,
I have also been looking into accomodation in Perth over xmas and have found it v rare to find good value accomodation. tried poms in perth who were arrogant and told me that i could not find a caravan in skegness for the price he was charging and ended the conversations telling me that park benches are not comfortable during xmas ( also my bday!!) !! Compares to perth prices i am told that they are expensive but as the british convert to pounds they find it reasonable which is what they use as a marketing strategy... i am sure they are good at what they do but the attitude is not very nice.

anyway i booked into sorrento beach resort for a weak then am looking for something from 2 - 17 jan 04...do a search on this forum..quite a few suggestions on there..good luck..salonixx

We've booked loads of family into sorrento beach resort during december. It seems to be fairly good accomodation, very close to hillarys and lots of nice restaurants. Make sure you go to NV right next door. One of our faves!

Plus it's right on the beach.

Also take a stroll to the Wild Fig for breakfast, but make sure you book first.

We are planning to stay in a sort of youth hostel, a quiet small one, so not in Northbridge!

I was looking around and came across this:

http://www.beattylodge.com.au/

It's not really for backpackers, more for international students in Perth and for international and national groups who have an event in Perth
THese are the rates(cheapest I've come across looking at hostels):
Double
$46.20 a night
$258.50 a week
1 Double Bed

Triple
$59.40 a night
$332.20 a week
3 Single/Bunk Beds

Rates quoted are for both Adults & Children
Folda-Beds are not available.

Hmmm, maybe not so great if you have a young child?
And of course you don't have your own kitchen and bathroom.
Well, maybe this is just a good tip for a couple without kids!

Good luck with your search!

Hi folks,
Do you need to to rent in Perth itself,we have booked a fortnight in Mandurah, fully furnished very reasonable prices,
they have a couple of properties by all accounts.

Paula is very pleasent to deal with as she is an expat herself and has had a couple of postings on here herself.
We land on 8 Nov and can't wait to get stuck in

Her E-mail address is [email protected]
I'm sure she'll be pleased to help

Wouldn't use poms in perth as the guy has a terribble attitude. Arrogant git who thinks he knows it all. I always wonder whether the tax man should take a look at his books.

Hi there,

We arrive January 24th!! we also have a son Matthew who's just turned 5!
We we're out in October and found accomodation through
www.lets-perth.com
I don't think you'll find anything cheap short term, but if you try www.realestate.com.au or www.reiwa.com you can pick up rentals that should be slightly more reasonable.

See you out there!

Could'nt disagree more with the comment about POMs in Perth, they have been an absolute fountain of knowledge! I have emailed them up to 10 times a day with questions on a huge variety of subjects and Nige has always responded very quickly. In all the dealings I have had with them they have been 100% brilliant, I would recommend them to anyone who needs accomodation (although as someone mentioned Jan is a very busy month) or just advice for their Perth arrival.

Cheers

Paul

PS and no I'm not on commision!
