Perth or Adalaide
Can anybody advice the better place to move to for a Mechanic and Teaching Assistant/Administrator between Perth and Adelaide (no kids). All things considered. We have never visited Perth before but think it looks nice we have visited Adelaide briefly but not sure how to compare. Obviously the cost of living and lifestyle inc weather all have to be taken into account as the pay will not be hugh. Looking forward to your advice. We need to put in for State Sponsorship a.s.a.p as these states are sponsoring at the moment.

We live South of the City and love the beaches but there will be less options here than NSW, Vic or even Brisbane.

Perth and Adelaide are very different cities so it's hard to compare. What is it exactly that you're looking for? Do you want to be close to the eastern states so you can have quick weekends in Sydney or Melbourne? Do you want to be close to surfing and able to be in Bali in 3 hours? Are you looking for nightlife or quiet family living? Where are there jobs for you both? Have you looked at seek & careerone? Just because the state is sponsoring doesn't mean you'll find jobs in your profession in either of the capital cities. Mechanics may be needed in Coober Pedy or Newman. Same for teaching assistants.
And not to nitpick, but Adelaide and Perth are not states; they are the capital cities of very large states. WA is so much more than Perth, just as SA is much more than Adelaide. It's a little someone saying that London is all of England.

Re: Perth or Adalaide
Like Dorothy, I have lived in both Perth and Adelaide and my reason for living in Adelaide as apposed to Perth. One being while in Perth I felt cut off from the rest of Australia and so far away if you want to visit Melbourne,Sydney,or Brisbane.
I think it's a personal thing, I hated the heat in Perth, I know that Adelaide has its fair share of hot weather but for some reson Perth always felt much hotter to me. Having said that they are both lovely cities.

Re: Perth or Adalaide
Hi guys thanks for the advice.
Part of me is thinking that Adelaide is better because its cheaper and smaller easier to settle in possibly?? Perth looks nice on the websites the sunsets then again maybe Adelaide is as nice. The lovely beach life like at Scarborough does Adelaide have much going on like the Amphitheater there and open air cinemas/music etc?
However the cost of living being near such places in Perth I am sure would be an issue and we don't know where the jobs will be yet so you do tend to dream. That's why I need some solid advice from people who have been there and done it and can bring me back to earth. So its hotter in Perth than Adelaide in the Summer, what about the dreaded flies, mossies and spiders which place is worse?? Once I have narrowed down the State I can then be realistic about where we will be living and working. I would hate to be really short of money and now thinking that is more likely to happen in Perth. Is it worth it thats the question? So why have you guys moved from one State to the Other? thanks advice appreciated.

We moved as all our family where in Adelaide. As for flies and insects you will get them in all of Australia, can't escape the dreaded pests
