Pension in Australia
Hi Folks, If you are an Australian citizen but are not currently living in the country can you still open a bank account and claim the state pension?
Also, what is the age for men & women to collect the pension in Australia?
Thanks

Have you ever lived in the country? Or are you still applying for your citizenship by descent?

Eligibility requirements for Australian pensions are detailed here:
http://www.centrelink.gov.au/interne..._residence.htm
Currently the age for men to collect is 65 but it's going up to 67. Women's age is also changing (gradually) from 60 to 67.

Second, you must satisfy the income and assets test.
Third, "Most Centrelink payments and services can only be paid for temporary absences of up to 13 weeks outside Australia and you must remain qualified for your payment while you are absent from Australia "
Current age is between 60 and 67 depending on date of birth.

Re: Pension in Australia
I am already a citizen by descent, it was for my parents. They lived there for almost 10 years but were considering going back. They are not yet the pension age anyway but I was just checking. Thanks for the update.
