Is it possible to turn up to vote and just spoil your ballot? (thus avoiding the fine but making some sort of statement, however trivial)

From past voting experience, once they have given it to you its up to you to fill it in and post it in a cardboard box, all anon, as far as I can tell your names/ID not on the form. Or you could draw mickey mouse on it, comment on OZ or wipe your nose on it.

So far we have had 14 letters ( 2 adults ) regarding the election, is the taxpayer paying for this

That's because it is a socialist party. More accurately a democratic socialist party. Do some research.

Not anymore. They even make the point of distancing themselves from it on their website. Do some research.

That's because they know it won't get them votes. It doesn't mean they are not democratic socialist.

Even their leader, Julia Gillard is a socialist. Fabian socialist to be precise and she is still a member of the Fabian society.

Interesting that they should claim that the ALP has many equivalent like minded parties overseas and include :
Socialist International
Social Democratic Labour Party of Northern Ireland
Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD)
Socialist Party (SP) (France)
Socialist Party (Italy)
Spanish Socialist Worker's Party (PSOE)
The Party of European Socialists

You will note the common denominator of the company they wish to keep.

True to an extent. Of course they lean that way but I do think they've come much more into the centre in recent years.

I agree Gillard would probably like to be more socialist than she appears to be. Just as Abbott would like to more religously motivated. As is the running theme of this pathetic election - both are too worried about scaring people off and prefer to be as inoffensive as possible behind vague slogans.

It's all a bit boring this year. I miss the good times when you could vote below the line in the senate for John Freemarijuana.

They are socialist. Julie Gillard is a puppet of union bosses and powerbrokers.

She is their bitch.
