A couple of years ago we stayed at the Hotel des Mines on the Boulevard St Michel.

It was reasonably priced, in a good location and came well recommended on Trip Advisor. Rooms were small but contained everything you needed and the staff were good.

I'd stay there again.

If you have kids with you I'd recomment booking an apartment through yellowstay.com. Their properties are all really central, a lot are in the Marais district. (They have a lot of studio properties as well ideal for two). You can save a lot by not having to have every meal, cup of coffee, etc. in a cafe, nice though that is!

Stayed here a couple of times, really fantastic location near the Eiffel Tower and metro station. Lovely little place.

The Latin Quarter (5th Arrondissement) is probably the most beautiful and has some really good value hotels. One thing to be careful of is that the French view on hotel stars is very differrent to what we are used to in Aus and the UK. Their 4-5 star hotels are more like 2-3 stars to us

4th, 5th or 6th are all good and you can find decent value hotels. I wouldn't stay out at the Eiffel Tower, it's all a bit government/embassy territory out there. St Michel station is a good starting point for Metro and RER travel too, it is also on the CDG line so you don't need to change trains with your luggage, something you'll thank me for pointing out.

good point. If you've got heaps of luggage then don't go 5th as it is nearly all cobbled
