Default Packing Up Yourself

Hi all, I have read some helpful posts recently on packing and the issues in packing things yourself, what to take etc.

I would like to know who you have used to ship your own packed boxes and how much it costs to do the move yourself?

We are thinking of packing our own things as we don’t have huge volumes and it seems easier to sort through things and pack them now rather than waiting for a move day. Also we have been quoted the usual 3 - 3.5K for shipping.

Thanks
Mart

I Holland, I contacted SHIPPING companies, instead of moving companies.

And in one case, when I asked the mover if we could pack and load ourselves, he gave me the name of a shipper.

These shippers have websites too.
Obviously I don't have tips, sorry

Good luck!

We've now got all our stuff packed (I'm sitting on the floor!!!!), container comes in the morning!
:scared:

In the US I also looked for shipping companies. I packed myself and they just came round and verified the contents. Our stuff is going in a lift van - about 1000 lbs worth and it is costing me $2000, so just over 1000 quid plus a bit more for insurance.

I was told by one company that if we packed the stuff ourself then customs would be more likely to go hrough the stuff but I guess so long as the contents are checked in some way then
we should be OK.

Thanks for the info. I have tried to search a number of times and got lots of info on boxes, sizes etc. I haven't found a thread yet which gives info from anyone who details the way they packed up and shipped their items themselves. If you know of any please let me know - especially UK to Aus?

Dorset is OK at the mo. Suns shining and everyone seems much more upbeat when its blue skies n'all. House prices are still going up though! Masses of people moving in to the area and Bournemouth is now being described as the UKs answer to VALIRAKI Police are giving out free sweets at kicking out time to try and stem the recent violence. It could be better.
