Packing
Thanks to all who have contributed advice on packing and shipping companies. Ours are coming tomorrow. Spent the last 2 weeks packing boxes - and just glad that it's now nearly all complete.
Took the advice about taking all that we could - although in our case because we are sharing a container and are charged by the cubic foot, we did calculate the cost of taking against buying in Australia. Invested in a couple of new duvets after reading the advice here - £7 from DunElm - can't be bad - and also high quality cotton sheets, towels etc.
We did consider buying white goods here and shipping over but concluded that the transport cost and the unknown with regards to the type of house we'd end up in weighed against doing so.
You do end up seeing the whole migration process as a series of hurdles - waving goodbye to the boxes tomorrow is a big one we've cleared!
Good luck to those of you just about to start!

Re: Packing
We are only at the early stages of planning what to take (if the house exchanges before the end of the month we will be booking shippers for 25th July). Having had a few preliminary discussions and a sort out in the garage and loft my head is already spinning at the amount of decisions we need to make. You will definitely deserve a tomorrow as you watch all those boxes disappear off into the great unknown!
Good luck

Good luck with the decisions. Here's a rule for non-sentimental items (if you're charged per cubic foot): If it will cost you more than £5 per cubic foot to replace the item in Australia...take it.
