Agreed........but once the chaff is sieved, there is an awful lot of useful information from people in the know. Information that surely has to be taken into consideration...........else what is the point in coming on here?

Lots of people on here that like to give their opinion regardless of how much they know on the subject.

And why would I get it 'looked at' when the house is sold STC and we will be moving to Oz in September!

My heating engineer husband has confirmed that oil heating bills for detached houses are massive atm. My SIL has a big house with oil heating and they are paying a fortune.
My significantly smaller house with gas central heating is easy to heat :D

Our oil heating bill is massive too. We spent £2600 last year for a 5 bedroom house.

Yes oil heating would have to be about the least efficient most expensive form of heating behind electric I would guess. Cant beat the efficiency of a real log fire :)

You pay £2500 a year heating ? You seriously need to get that looked at, I don't know anyone who pays anything like that.

Everyone I know does and I am still in the UK. I have lived in a victorian house and now in modern house and still pay £2000. The UK is far from cheap these days. Gas bills up another 19% this year and were put up 20% last year.

Absolute rubbish. £750 a year for domestic oil heating (approx £60 a month) Our house is a 4 bed, not a huge farmhouse.

Some people will be paying much more than that for mains gas central heating, which is much, much cheaper.

Please see this thread and remember that oil prices have gone up a lot since then. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...d.php?t=161843

When you woke up Bermudashorts......were you back in Australia??

There really are some unbelievable comments on here!!

Thank God some of you are honest, impartial, straight and are on here to help.

And to those of you who are just a little lonely and wish to give your opinions for something to do......just bear in mind that people are making life changing decisions and seek honesty and relevance to their situation.

Well Said!!!!!!!

I cant understand how anyone can pay that amount for gas! I know it is 3 years since we were in the UK, but it is impossible that we would pay that. Three years ago we paid 25 pounds a month on DD and that was probably a bit too much. That was to heat a old poorly insulated house with crap windows and everything running on gas - central heating, water, fire and cooker. Oh, and a wife who comes from a hot country and feels cold at the best of times.
I reckon i could heat a house on less than 2k by setting light to 20 pound notes.

Yes.....but you are not trying to find reasons to leave

Well I guess we know very different people, I don't know anyone who pays anything like that much BUT I don't think they have oil heating.
Utilities sound as though they have gone the same way as here then.
According to Oftec
'Over the last year the average cost of oil heating for a three bedroom house was £1044 per annum, which compares favourably with other fuels.'
I personally would have thought oil would have been much more in comparison to other forms of heating.

Actually we are leaving. Probably next month as can earn 2x what i earn here by being back in the UK. Though plan at the moment is to go back for two years to get some decent $$$ for a house then come back. Luckily i am in a position that i get my relocations paid for.

My gas and electric was 96 quid a month in the UK, five and a half years ago.
