I know from others that childcare / school fees can be high, medical insurance isnt cheap, household bills can be eyewatering - especially things like internet.

Thats why there are a fair few on here looking at heading back. Its just become way too expensive.

Funny you mention those things on your list...most of them are things I think are only a little dearer, similar to, or even cheaper here than the UK (apart from medical insurance as didn't have private medical in the uk so no idea). None of them seem game changers.

Thank you.......just as I thought.

Internet and food especially does seem much more expensive, but over there we will not have to pay £2500 in oil bills (heating) a year and we should be able to cope without aircon at home.

You pay £2500 a year heating ? You seriously need to get that looked at, I don't know anyone who pays anything like that.

Just thinking the same. I don't know anyone who pays that. It's like with water saving showerheads, can't remember who it was but they had to buy theirs quite expensively yet we were sent a voucher to get ours for free, so some people certainly seem to be paying shit loads for things and some of us don't but never have we paid anything like that for fuel bills.

And how many people do you know in the UK who live in the stix in victorian detached houses with oil central heating? Be honest!

Lots of people on here that like to give their opinion regardless of how much they know on the subject.

And why would I get it 'looked at' when the house is sold STC and we will be moving to Oz in September!

Have you any idea how cold it has been here the last two winters?

Please don't judge my competance on saving money when you know F-all about the subject.

No, I have no idea how cold it's been at all as I have only been in perth for over 3 years and the past couple of winters have had the gas heater on constant and the oil heater on all night, but otherwise I know cock all about Uk winters only perth winters.

And for the record I was not judging your competence but more wondering why some people pay extortionate bills and get charged heaps more and others don't.

FYI, my internet is 32 pounds a month cost of living equivalent.

Speed: 16Mbit
Download Limit: 100GB

The price includes VOIP phone service line rental + free calls to all land lines in Australia.

So why did you quote me.......when you have absolutely no idea of heating costs in the UK?

It was cold enough here in December to freeze our (lagged) central heating pipes at -16.

Where do some of you people get off......does it make you feel better about your own unfortunate position in life or something?

Thank you........that is just about exactly the same as we are paying in the UK with. No where near as much as I have heard other people quoting!

:)

Some people will quote higher figures as not every internet provider serves every area of Australia. In some areas its still hard (maybe even impossible) to get a decent broadband service, especially if you outside of the main centres. People are unlikely to be quoting false figures about the internet just as you are unlikely to be quoting false figures on heating costs. :)

I guess it also depends on your internet provider?

Also, some of the information I have been looking at is a couple of years old. Are internet and landline prices generally coming down?

:)

I hadn't noticed the prices of anything in Aus coming down to be honest.

Really, that is worrying! With the strength of the aus$ Imported items such as TVs, computers etc should surely have come down in price? I am gobsmacked

TVs might, I don't have one, the standard of TV is so dire here that I gave that up!! Last laptop I bought was the same price as in the UK, that was just over a year ago.
