Default Oz versus The UK

All this talk about which country is better has got me thinking-
The two countries are very similiar-they are in fact alternate versions of the same culture.
They both have there pro's and cons-and thus regardless of which one some of us live in we will always miss aspects of the other.
The best option for those that can't decide which one to live in is to live in both switching from one to the other-any thoughts?

Happiness comes from within. Don't matter whether you live in the UK or OZ. Life is what you make it.

Totally Totally agree

neither place is best they both have their up points.....just not at the time I have the downer on them

So my plan of action is wait till the kids finish education, leave house in Aus (not sell) then I am back to Europe (buy small if at all possible), stay till I get bored/spaced out again then as long as I am old enough back to Aus and do the SAD trip and then with still enough legs in me I go back to Europe and then ping pong.

And with me I know now it will never be a matter of deciding once and for all, my children will have a choice of Aus or Europe so chances we will never be a grown up family in one place at one time. I get homesick for my surroundings, my husband loves a challenge, so all in all I have planned to not plan to stay

Like Poly says......I just need the lottery win to fund it

So what I would really like to see is a separate forum on here....for those who would love to live in both places. Then we could get some real advice going on how to make it possible not just a pipe dream. For example we could job share in two countries for 6/3 months each and do a house swop in different states for the seasons we do not like........ah dreaming....bliss

Cheers

UK would be great if -
Any oppurtunities existed to allow young people to get on housing ladder
Government did'nt bleed us dry of all they possibly could
If we actually had a real say in outcome of things such as closure of care homes & merging of PCT and education ect
If school's were not so overcrowded and teachers were given extra support
If elderly didnt have to spend there life savings on their care, after spending a lifetime working for the country
If there were more decent facilities for kids, such as youth clubs and after school events - rather than the government complaining about the yob culture they have created through lack of support for kids
If we were not better off on the dole than we are working our socks off
If we were not so soft on criminals, such as drunk drivers who kill someones child receiving suspended sentences
If you are too scared to invest in any buisiness schemes because you know from experience how much the government will take from you
If you were not so heavily penalised for working hard
If it was not cold, grey, dismal and depressing looking out of your windows every morning
I could go on - but apart from a small selection above its great living here!!

In fact -there probably isnt a country that this doesnt apply to-other than the 123 that dont have the dole-or Jobs-oh....or food. Get a grip!
As for it being better to be on the dole than working-that depends doesnt it?
I doubt Allan Sugar would agree!
No one owes you anything-life is what YOU make of it.
If you want a free lunch than by god, Oz aint the place!

Ideally I would run a business that has branches in both places.
I would spend time in Sydney and perhaps Devon or the West, perhaps London.
The thing is that Australia is a great place to unwind-it seems paradise if you are out of it for a while. Returning to Oz is always fun.
When people ask me is Oz different to the UK I reply-that EVERYTHING is just a little different(I refer to societal things only-not the nature which is wildly different).

I live in the UK but am Australian born and spent 38+ years there.
Honestly there is more opportunity in the UK-that is objective fact.
I am a business analyst and would back the chances of success for a UK business well before an Australian one.
The Business environment is much much better in the UK>

Just read your 2nd reply, you seem to be taking issue out of context
I have never looked for a free lunch have never not worked a day in my working life (apart from having my kids) even then NO benefits claimed.
I would never go somewhere looking for a free lunch!
I intended for it to be put across that if you work hard you can live a better life than you can in UK
And i am well aware that life is what you make it and my life is great, but i do get fed up of the ever increasing taxes and penalties for living an honest hard working life here, compared to the poor services offered
So please don't judge me as someone looking for freebies when i am far far from that
