Living on the Gold Coast, we get even more crap TV coz we get NSW and Gold Coast. The tv programmes are the same but there is about a five min delay between NSW and Gold Coast. Good if you miss a juicy bit, coz you just change channels and see it again!!! In general, OZ tv is awful. Satelite tv is not much better, but at least you get to watch UK Gold and Top Gear nd TOTP.

That's got Big Brother, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, various assortment of Law & Orders, not to mention Oprah, Rove, the simpsons, charmed...judge judy (how mad is she?)
TV is not that bad over here, but I guess it depends what you're into. SBS and ABC have some really good documentary type programmes (high brow intellectual stuff...sometimes) and some (occasionally) good programmes from UK.
....not that you'll be watching them with your new outdoorsy lifestyle tho
