Default Out of date passports

Just thinking of citizenship application and wondered if all our passports need to be in date to apply. Mine and hubbies are but kids 15 and 12 are out of date. Anyone know?

You don't need a valid passport to apply for citizenship (many permanent residents don't have one because their governments won't give them one).

However, it is a good idea to have a valid passport (and re-entry visa) at all times. What if you needed to travel urgently?

DIAC will normally want to see the expired passports when you apply for citizenship, so as you need to send them off to get new ones (keep copies ... ) you may need to do some planning as to the timing.
