As I type this, we are in a hotel room in Heathrow Airport after having just travelled from Edinburgh to Heathrow on the 1st leg of our long journey to Perth, WA.

We have sold virtually everything we own (cars etc.) and rented out our house which makes the process all that more daunting.

Tomorrow sees us boarding the Singapore Airlines flight from LHR to SIN.

We have three children with the youngest one being 5 months who took her first flight surprisingly well (a few tears after take-off) and we are hoping for the same tomorrow.

We shall update whenever possible....

All the best for your journey. I know you know there will be huge ups and big downs - but life will be good! I love the laidback life of Perth and the summer - athough it's a long hot one the blue of the sky and beautiful beaches makes up for it.

Bottle this part ... I wish i could relive the deparure, journey and arrival- knowing what i know now and how settled we all are after 4 months. The first few weeks are hectic esp with children. But its all worth it!
Dont forget to give baby a bottle for take off and landing for the ears!!

We will be doing the same in June.....london to singapore then drop down to perth on the A380, we have a 4 year old that cannot sit still !!!! so i feel for you.

Are you from Edinburgh? We'll be leaving on 29th April from Edinburgh to Melbourne. Keep us posted on how you survive the flight with the little ones. I'm dreading that bit....... 5 year old not so bad but our 20 month old son has never flown before. Really hope he travels ok................

All the best Colonel! You'll look back on the flight and think, well, that wasn't so bad after all

Scotsista, just one piece of advice, be prepared to get up and about with your little one on the plane. The best way to travel at that age is to let them explore the plane as much as possible (safely) at the beginning. He'll then get bored and be happy to settle for a sleep later on (hopefully ).

We once flew from Melbourne to Auckland and there was a little one who screamed the whole way (4.5 hours ) because she wanted to go walkabout and move around and the parents wouldn't let her. Annoying!
