oh, and I had terrible problems with iinet customer service, which I never ever want to experience again, it was that painful - hence why I took the easy route with BigPond.

thanks very much, looks like we have to stay with optus for now, they have stitched us up - they are crap! have I said that.

We have upgraded ar tinternet mbites thingy so we are paying an extra $10 a month, we will see how we go, but Ian has told them that they will be binned as soon as ar contract is up! think it had something to do with being on the phone for 1hr half that did it, told you he will combust! :curse:

OMG - Optus broadband - I don't know what to say......gives me nightmares just thinking about it. :curse:

Thankfully I'm with iinet now and I have never had any issues. I can totally sympathise with your experiences on the phone to Optus tech support - truly appaling.

Although O2 are now pushing towards 18 month contracts!

Not a worry for me when I move back to Aust - my employer pays for home phone, braodband etc plus unlimited use of company mobile phone.......

Big pond are shite also. They have however gotten a little better lately. I am unlimited downloads but used to get slowed downed after 10-12 gigs. For some reason they have stopped that . For the moment!

Depends on which service you want - DSL, Mobile or Cable

- DSL - crap plans
- Mobile - ok caps, crap no live billing on postpaid (so i;ll be off)
- Cable - good if you can get it...

As for alternatives
- DSL
IInet are good (if you can get an ADSL2+ port)
AAPT good for me so far - no contract no signon fee
Internode - good reports
Netspace - good plans but crap customer service
Bigpond - good customer service, crap plans

Mobile
- 3 good plans but contracts are long. Mobiles are with dodgy 3 software
- VF good all round, poor coverage. No low cap plan without a contract
- Virgin, Soul, Optus all the same really... no post paid realtime billing
- Telstra - expensive but good coverage

Telecoms is sooooo fun in Australia.
