Go Banana's !! Jun 21st 2004 6:10 am

We are going with Royal Brunei on business class (not as much as you would think - £900 single £700 child and Warren's return £1,500) we have a total baggage allowance of 50kg each and two pieces of hand luggage. Made up of 30kg allowed in business class and 20kg for the visa. Make sure you get a written confirmation of the visa baggage allowance to take with you, just incase they get funny at the airport.

We dedcided to go business class as we are not having a stop over and sleeping upright makes me ill:eek:   and not good for the six year old (were's the smilie for vomit) We need the days in Oz to do all the offical stuff before Warren returns.

Hope that info helps someone.

Hi - I'm flying at the end of August, one way with United Airlines via the USA, for £480 plus tax. I land in Sydney though (but a short flight from Sydney to Bris isnt much)
I've been give a 64kg allowance, plus 25kg hand luggage allowance!

Any good to you?

W. :)
Hi Wanderlust, who have you booked these flights through?

Are you stopping off anywhere in America? Your package sounds like a good idea.

Well we had a bit of a "do" with singapore airlines...not with the fact we are stopping over (we stay in sing for 1 night) but the fact we are on a 4 yr temp visa...apparently this is not enough for 40kgs...but after a few emails we managed to swing it....on the below thread is our correspondence with singapore airlines....try the airline direct and see how you get on, it worked for us.

How to get 40kgs with singapore airlines!

Think I'm going to have the same problems; flying with Thai Airlines on a 2 year de facto visa. Have sent them a covering letter, plus a copy of my visa letter stating that I will be notified within two years of the next stage of my PR application.... fax went off today, fingers crossed!!
Though to be honest I'm in two minds about it anyway as I'm flying from Heathrow (live in Cheshire) so need to either get the shuttle (wont give me extra allowance already asked) or the train (can you imagine trying to carry more than the one bag through the underground!) down, might just be easier to ship it!!

I saw £383 + tax via LA with Air NZ, travelling one way on September.

I'll take a bit of jet lag for that price!

Hi Nick

I phoned a number of airlines last week and found that most airlines would not give an increased allowance on economy fare tickets.

Singapore Airlines were the only ones who said they would automatically give 40kgs for a one way ticket to anyone who has a visa stating - 'Holder permitted to remain in Australia Indefinitely'.

Have booked the flights and had the baggage allowance confirmed!

The best thing to do is phone them in London and speak direct!

Hope this helps. ;)

Flying out on 30 June with BA / Qantas (though flights are operated by American Airlines and Air Pacific) with a 3 night stop over in New York and 7 nights in Fiji before flying on to Sydney.

£480 incl taxes through Airline Network

Baggage allowance 64kg

Longest bit of trip - New York to Fiji via LA, which is about 16 hours flying time and a few hours in transit at LAX. Not keen on that but 30 June is the last day for low season flights so it had to be like that rather than pay extra and fly out in July and have an easier journey.

Hi can anyone clear this up for me! I went into Austravel last week to look at one way flights going to Brisbane in September with a stop over in Penang, all of which was no problem except that I was told that I would not be entilted to the 40 kilo each allowance you normally get on one way flights because we were stopping over some where:confused:

This made me think. We're emigrating to Oz in Jan of next year, but I'm a citizen and because of that my 2 kids will also be flying on oz passports. Hubby has got his PR visa. As citizens, does anyone know if we'll be entitled to the extra allowance? With 2 small kids we won't be able to travel without it. I'm a dual national who's been living here for the last 12 years, and both kids were born here. Anyone got any answers?

I was wondering the same for Mr B - an aussie, been here for 4+ years by the time we leave...

Hi Treefrog

if you ask Singapore Air nicely, you'll get the allowance too!

I wrote them a nice letter & sent it by fax to Richard Caldwell (Supervisor)!!!!

I think you were lucky :) the general rule is that if you're a citizen then you're not immigrating just returning to your own country. I don't know what you said in your letter, but I guess if you put it to them you hadn't been there for 10/20/30 years then you might be able to get it :)
