Default Olympic Medal Tally

Australia is currently second in the world , behind China, with 4 gold medals,
Great Britain is way down the list, somewhere behind Slovakia.

Wombat you have the greatest way of showing aussies up at their worst. Try saying what you wrote.

"Australia is second in the WORLD great britain way down the list somewhere behind slovakia".

This is such a typical but sad aussie attitide, anyone who lives here will know what I mean, its not pride its little dick syndrome, makes us look like we cant do much else so we have to brag about sport.

Tonights news will be just the same, probably wont even hear who came first

Oh, that's why there's no channel 7 TV coverage of the Pom team.

Shouldn't crow too much at this early stage, the warm beer chugging comps are yet to come.

What a shame that Australians can do a lot more, isn't it? One thing the country is very good at is attracting British immigrants. Hence; this forum.

Whaddaya mean the Pom team? You get a Pom team at the Commonwealth Games, not the Olympics where it is a british team

Nice one. Congratulations.

However, in soccer, the sport that any poms actually care about, England are currently ranked 7th in the world. Australia is well down the list, somewhere behind Latvia.

Just gonna to say : nothing wrong with being good at sport. The USA has a big world city, New York, has high per capita income, all the economic bells and whistles that anti-Australia people comment on and they do OK in world sport.

Years ago you could not get in to a decent uni unless you were an all rounder, and in this respect, sport always looked good on the old CV so don't knock it. Keeps you fit as well. Tell the oxford and cambridge blues they are only good at sport and they will laugh.

lol (!)

Seems to make you feel good Wombat. Nice of those Athletes to put in the work and yet you have the superiority complex.

Australia does well in the pool hence the traditional early high medals tally. Australia also has a team as big as the US and China and chucks a huge amount of money at sport. The expected final position is 5th, 4th would be a better than expected performance. Anything less they we can call em a bunch of uncos .

Personally I find the jingoism surrounding the Olympics nauseating but fortunately I haven't had to watch any of it. I found Britain bad and guilty of it before and I shall be avoiding any channel except SBS. Without medals tallies and national anthems the event would be great.

England don't have a soccer team taking part. Being English, they probably realise how boring the English public find the Olympics and wisely decided to not to bother.

Give Australia time and they'll get ahead. Just like they have with any other sport the British invented and introduced to Australia.

Seriously though, Australia's prowess at sport has a very simple origin: Australia's climate. It's conducive to sport and physical activity.
