Default offshore rig work requirements?

i hope to be in australia long before this time next year,as my visa expires aug next year.
I was looking at a job,not that i am applying for it, as im not in oz yet,but it maybe usefull to have in my line of work, its called msic is it possible to get this just before i go to australia or is it better to get this when im in oz?

Am i right in saying this is valid for 5 yrs but if not used within 12 month it expires?
Is there different places you can get this and is there a difference in prices you can get this or all the same?

Also wah i take this is working at height again where is best place to get this, and again best get it when im there, best prices etc.

also the uk offshore survival this is valid in australia right?
As i seen a post asking for tbosiet/bosiet/foet/huet is this different things or all of what i already might have.

You guys who work offshore maybe able to give me heads up on the above

Hi Brian.
I'm trying to get my head round Australian and Gulf of Mexico requirements too.

I can't tell whether the BOSIET is valid in Australia. The TBOSIET is very much the same course (at the moment) so I think it's a piss take various entities trying to make a buck or two but let's forget about all that and get on with the ticket.

AFAIK you can't convert a BOSIET to a TBOSIET... and also I can't tell if TBOSIET is a requirement or whether BOSIET is OK at the moment. Anyway, I would expect things to change in any case. The best setup for this would be to do the TBOSIET with the cold water extension.

The thing to look out for though is that some companies just want the box ticked and I'm not sure if they will consider TBOSIET with cold water section as BOSIET too.

The annoying thing is that I can only see TBOSIET in WA,Aus and not in Aberdeen so I guess I'd have to fly there.

I also have a STCW95 which is pretty much BOSIET minus the chopper training but adding in HUET isn't enough. This is because STCW95 is for marine and BOSIET is for oil and gas (usually rigs... wonder where FPSOs fit in??).

As for FOET I'm not sure. Definitely worth it as I've seen quite a few folk in marine sector with it but not sure about Australia. Really need someone in Aus to help out with this. The MIST course seems more useful.
Ask these guys?

As for Gulf of Mexico, got any info?

Is this TBOSIET training centre in Indonesia legit?:

We have lots of Indo crew... guess I will ask them.

Reply and let me know how you're getting on. I'm looking at relocating to South America so I want all the tickets I can get!

I got an MSIC card last month. I had to go into the port authority offices in Fremantle, it was their port I was to work on, to apply. They took a pic of me and put the application through. It lasts for 4 years if you pay for the 4 year card. It took about 2 weeks for the card to be issued. It is of course usable no any port but I had to do an induction for Fremantle ports too.

Hope this helps.

John

To get an MSIC you need an employer who requires you to have one. You can't just apply for one.
Can be valid for 2 or 5 years as far as I know & I've never used mine just need to have it on display at work, so no it doesn't expire through lack of use. MSIC is a set fee, just get one from nearest port authority.

It's TBOSIET over here with the T standing for tropical. I'm pretty sure BOSIET covers you here but not visa versa as the BOSIET requires an extra days training to cover the specific North Sea requirements.

I did my TBOSIET in Feburary here in Perth.
