Off Leash dog walks in Brisbane Region
Hello there,
We have just moved to brisbane, Bulimba, and are getting our dog from quarrantine next mnth. Back in the UK we really enjoyed taking our dog long walks off lead however I have recently driven around to the local parks/ reserves and found that you have to have your dog on the leash. Except for the small fenced area.
Does anyone have any suggestions for some nice parks and reserves in the brisbane region where we can walk our dog?
thanks
M

Welcome to the world of dog owning in Australia!! This is a common problem throughout most states. You can only exercise your dog off leash in leash free areas. These are usually boring fenced areas but there are some good ones around, even though they can be quite small. I don't know about Brisbane because we live in VIC but try asking at your local council for a list of the leask free parks and beaches. There should be a few around although most beaches are on leash walking only, with some off leash allowed on some at specified times of day. If your really lucky, you'll find a total leash free beach, usually ones that no one wants to visit because the beach is rocky.
Also be warned that most National parks are totally dog free areas, many won't even let you take them in in the car, let alone take them out for a walk, even on a leash!!
Walking in the same leash free area every day can get really tedious for the owners let alone the dogs! Most of us have to use the nearest one that we can get the dogs to before and after work. If was certainly something we took into consideration when choosing a plot of land to build on.

We usually either drive an hour south to The Spit off-leash beach on the Gold Coast - or drive 30 mins north to Nudgee Beach - which is also off-leash near water.

I recently visited Perth, and I was interested to see that MOST of the dogs were walking off the leash. I live in Brisbane, and we will be getting a dog within the next 3 months..........I am interested to see why the difference between Brisbane and Perth. Are the rules the same in Perth, but no one abides them.....or are the rules different?
