Hi
Sorry don't know anyone with a child there.... here's some info that may help....

Located 28 km northwest of Perth CBD, with over 90 qualified, experienced staff and a stable student population of about 1300 students, this senior high school is highly regarded within the local community. It has an open, friendly and supportive atmosphere where there is an established ethos of developing the whole person to become a valuable member of society, A broad subject choice for secondary students from thirteen to seventeen years old is offered, with elite programs in Soccer, Rugby Union, Business, and academic extension, a support Reading for Sure and specialist Music. Frequently in various Australia-wide competitions and in the annual Year 12 examinations, students are ranked among the highest achievers. As well as the academic program, the school has a very productive Student Services presence to help students fulfil their potential by developing individual self-worth and mutual respect for others. All stakeholders actively engage in the school community; student attendance is consistently above the state average, there is an energetic Student Council, many specialist staff committees and a keen School Council, which is supported by the successful P & C

Ocean Reef Senior High School is more than bricks, mortar and a curriculum. It's the collection of experiences that provide opportunities of challenged growth for your child made possible through our varied programs and caring staff.

Ocean Reef Senior High School opened its doors in 1983 to 200 students. In 2008, the school has 1304 students enrolled and offers a thriving environment for boys and girls in Years 8 to 12. Located only 500 metres from the pristine waters of the Indian Ocean in the northern corridor of metropolitan Perth, the school is highly regarded by parents from the surrounding seaside suburbs of Ocean Reef, Mullaloo, Beaumaris, Iluka, Connolly, Currambine and Heathridge.

The school is staffed by over ninety highly qualified and experienced teaching staff who are committed to the development of young people. A hallmark of the teaching staff at Ocean Reef SHS is that they are dedicated to providing an interesting and challenging learning environment for your child. The school aims to develop the 'whole person' - intellectually, physically, emotionally, psychologically and socially, thereby affirming and valuing students as individuals capable of making valuable contributions to society, while emphasising individual worth and promoting mutual respect for others.

The atmosphere of our school is open, friendly and supportive. As your child's welfare is important to us, we have Student Services and Year Coordinators monitoring and supporting your child to ensure they are safe, secure and happy at school. We encourage school pride and have expectations of all students following our dress code.

At Ocean Reef SHS, we are equipped and committed to providing an environment that allows your child and our teachers to perform to their highest individual potential. The school is air-conditioned, providing a comfortable environment for continuous learning even in our hot Perth summers. Personal attention is given to your child's needs, interests and special abilities by offering a wide variety of optional programs in art, business studies, design and technology, dance and drama, home economics, marine studies, media studies, music, photography and sport in addition to the compulsory traditional subjects of Mathematics, English, Science and Society and Environment. To maximise your child's individual potential, we also offer Academic Extension (SEAC), Reading for Sure, Special Business Program, Elite Soccer and Elite Music. In 2009 Ocean Reef SHS will offer an elite program in Rugby Union.

A broad subject choice is available for your child in Years 11 and 12. Learning pathways and experiences have been designed to help your child progress easier to their chosen futures. We offer a comprehensive selection of Tertiary Entrance Examination subjects, qualifying for University entrance as well as a network of business and computing subjects and Vocational Education and Training subjects leading to TAFE study. All teaching and learning is fully supported by extensive resources in our library. An Information and Communication Technology (ICT) program is available throughout the School to support your child in their learning via a comprehensive computing network.

Ocean Reef SHS has a proud academic history which has been built around strong and positive educational leadership, matched by excellence in teaching and pastoral care and supported by a wide range of activities. This combination has seen the school win numerous state and national awards including the Australian Careers Service National Innovation in School Careers Programs Award, Young Achievement Australia - Western Australia Company of the Year and the Television Section of the National Rock Eisteddfod. Our students continue to achieve exemplary success in various competitions including being ranked in the top students in the Australian Mathematics Competition, a range of other competitions from the University of NSW and the Australian Geography Competition. Our 2005 Head Girl won the Lions WA and Australian Youth of the Year Award. We aim to empower each student to achieve their potential and develop a passion for lifelong learning. This love of learning is evidenced by our strong academic results.

In the final 2007 state examinations one student achieved a Subject Exhibition (top student in the state) in Computer Fundamentals, a Certificate of Distinction (top 0.5%) in Business Financial Management and a Certificate of Excellence (ten A grades). Other students achieved Certificates of Distinction and Excellence. Ocean Reef also achieved 'top performing' status in Practical Geography, Office Administration, Technical Graphics and Business Financial Management. In the MSE9, Year 9 State wide, (now replaced by NAPLAN) series of assessments, the school's results were above those expected in terms of State performance.

We believe that a school cannot achieve optimal outcomes for students in isolation and therefore we encourage building relationships with our learning partners - parents, families, community, service providers, businesses, other schools, institutions of higher learning and the professions. We have a well developed employer supported Structured Workplace Learning provision, Ocean Reef Emergency Services cadets, Surf Life Saving cadets and First Clicks ICT to support elderly members of the community. Our School Council has student, staff and parent representatives. Students have an active Student Council. Our staff meet regularly and this includes weekly senior staff meetings, full staff meetings twice a term and fortnightly faculty meetings. Ocean Reef SHS has many specialist committees including Finance, Literacy and Technology. An active and effective Parents and Citizens' Association operates within the school. The P&C manages the canteen and aims to provide nutritious and affordable meals.

We are justifiably proud of our students and those who leave us as being confident young people with aspirations to undertake further studies and make their mark upon society. Early in 2008 the School was presented with a 'Top Public School Award 2007' in recognition of being among the State's top 50 schools by achieving a high graduation rate, Subject Exhibitions and Curriculum Council awards. The intent of the school is that its graduates will reflect on their time at the school and be able to say with pride 'I am a graduate of Ocean Reef SHS - a place of learning excellence'. The school's motto is 'Sail Forth' and reflects the idea that its graduates will move effectively from Ocean Reef SHS school into their post-school lives.

The I would stick with Ocean Reef. There is a lot to be said for a child to go to school with people they are at primary school with. The school has improved over the last 5 to 6 years. I am not sure I would trek all the way to Quinns Baptist, there are far better private schools closer to home for you if you wanted to go down the private route.

Quite a few friends' kids go there. It's got a lot better over the last few years. It has taken over the marine studies program from Padbury High School after it shut so kids can do this interesting course and get their dive ticket.

Another child we know has a music scholarship there and loves it. He had a place available at Lake Joondalup but parents chose to send him to ORSH.

I used to teach there (up until the end of last year)
It is an ok school. The buildings are a bit run down. The kids are pretty good on the whole but if your child is academic you need to be in contact with the school and request higher stream classes. The teachers are good. I would be happy to send my kids there is private school wasn't an option.
