NZ Jobs
Can those of you who are out there help pls??? I'm wondering about employers and Perm Res applications. Are employers out there generally happy to offer someone a job on the basis that they will need to apply for Perm Res Visa???
I'm just unsure about whether to apply. If I get a job in my field of qualification (customer services) then I can count a lot of irrelevant work experience (to the qual) so I can apply but I won't necessarily get a looking for work visa as I don't yet know if I will make the 5 points short bit.
Can you let me know about any general info on employers etc that will help me make up my mind.
Thanks, Pat.

Re: NZ Jobs
Probably; I had two offers and the visa hadn't even been applied for. Both were more
than helpful in terms of supplying info. for immigration.

Re: NZ Jobs
I think it depends largely on your skill set. Someone in a more specialised occupation, eg IT, might not find it too difficult to find an advance job offer. But someone in a less specialised job would find it tougher. I don't want to sound negative Smokey but Customer Services is not seen by many people as particularly specialised, however advanced your own experience might be.
Nearly all employers on the NZ job websites ask for you to have PR or a work visa before applying for a vacancy.
All the best

Hi, yes I couldn't agree with you more and it doesn't sound negative - just realistic
which is actually what I need to hear. Does it make it any easier to have a jobsearch
visa (at 5 points under the passmark) ie are employers more amienable when you're
there? I have the impression from ad's I've seen that it doesn't help that much. I
was thinking about applying after hubby gets study visa and we're in NZ so we have a
bit of breathing space. just one quickie though....is a helpdesk considered to be a
part of IT at all for this purpose? Thanks, Pat.

Re: NZ Jobs
I think having a 6 month work visa makes a huge difference, you'll be treated seriously by prospective employers. I'm not actually in NZ yet but many posters and websites say that for a European (particularly a Brit) it is straightforward to get a job provided you are a) in NZ and available for interview, b) prepared to possibly initially take a job which pays less than your usual grade expectation and maybe is a bit lower down the scale than you are used to. But after you've been in the job long enough to establish NZ credibility, getting a new job/ upgrade to your old position is more likely. NZ has low unemployment now.
Not sure about your IT question.
