No diesel in Perth
There is no diesel in Perth - if you see a station with some, fill up
B20 bio-diesel is currently available - I filled up this morning

We got a "heads up" from DFES yesterday about this, it also happened on the 9th of May too although is wasn't as bad then. I'm on duty this weekend and my truck is only half full, fortunately it's winter so I'm unlikely to be using much...

2 weeks ago I filled both my tanks so I am good for another 4 weeks or so. Bloody glad I did!

Honolulu is the most isolated city in the world - have a look at a map
The same thing happened in Melbourne a few weeks ago (and in 2012) and I believe Adelaide had problems recently too
This shortage has more to do with the lack of storage capacity for fuel - it seems like the oil companies work on a make/import it and use it now basis
Government needs to look at this because if there was a real crisis, the country would be stuffed

Gull Kalamunda had a delivery late this afternoon. Happened to be driving past in the wife's car and saw the tanker. Rang them when I got home to confirm they had diesel and drove straight there to fill up my car. Most garages I called were saying it could be a few days before they get any.

Re: No diesel in Perth
BP at Kwinana is shutdown for extended maintenance. Also it's seeding season so demand out east is high.

Everywhere else is dry that I drove past

Sure, BP is in shutdown and that is a factor but they should have allowed for problems. This happens all the time around Australia and something has to be done. Refining and storage is a grey area where the market doesn't have the total solution. Government needs to regulate better in this area. When I get back to uni next week I'll ask my lecturer about this as he is a guru in the subject

Re: No diesel in Perth
Will be interesting to hear his thoughts.
Within 10 years max there will be no refining in Australia.
Already the big terminal guys are circling.

We'll always have some refining capacity - we are getting down to a core of plants that are profitable (especially Kwinana) but whether it would be enough for our needs in a time of crisis remains to be seen

I have a VW and a Mitsubishi Triton. B20 is maximum 20% bio-diesel and is a straight substitute for standard diesel - you can mix both in the same tank even. In fact, current regs allow for normal diesel to have 5% bio as standard. VW and other manufacturers do not allow straight bio to be used as this could damage modern engines that have not been adapted. B20 is perfectly fine in vehicles built after the mid-90's. I have used B20 in all my vehicles since it became available about 8 years ago
