( i`m a padi DM )
that and my daughter terri ( 13 ) is just doing her open water
some of our aussie BE members suggested that it would be cheaper to kit her up in the UK so i got her enrolled nad bought her her first set of gear ( she loves it )
also got myself a new dive comp at he same time
just to save money of course

Re: Nitrox
It seems most places around Sydney do nitrox but they charge a fortune for it and only do 32 and 36 mixes so I've stuck to air.

Re: Nitrox
Heaps of places do nitrox fills. You dont have to go as far as Surfers or Redcliffe - which aren't in Brisbane. Pro dive in Milton for example or Dive Dive Dive. If you narrow the area a bit then I'm sure you'll find something a lot closer.
DO NOT (and I repeat this) bring your UK cylinders if you have any though. Many people will attest to this.
As to if a Nitrox course is worth it - sure! If nothing else it means that you can always then try out semi closed rebreathers or even if you dont use it when local diving (I dont) then you can use it further north where extended bottom time is more worth it.
PS - Remember to get your PADI membership transferred to Asia Pacific offices. The only down side here is that you must have compulsory insurance to be in teaching status which isnt cheap - about $400 a year. Brings my annual costs to quite a meaningful amount sadly as I have to renew that, instructor, IDC staff and a shed load of others. Whoever said diving was cheap lol.
