You might want to try doing a search on this subject as it has been covered by a few. Sometime last year someone attached collated info on Brisbane. Sorry i have the info but not the name.

Good luck with your searching.

Simmy, you REALLY have to give people more idea of what you want & what you call expensive. How old your kids are. Do you need schools. Where you may be working. How much money you have to put towards a house. Your question is way way too general.

Here are a couple of previous threads to look through, hopefully you might get a few ideas

Know anything about Brisbane

Where to live in Brisbane - opinions from the forum - PeteY put together a good document which gives alot of info on different areas, download it from this thread, its the one FootieChick was talking about.

Good luck

I think you will get many recommendations for most areas in and around Brisbane.

Each will have different reasons. I like my area, nice and quiet, not too hot with the bay breezes, but it wouldn't be suitable for others.

As a guide here, a 3 bed house is around $280k on 700sm block, within 3-5 minute drive to water.

Wynnum & Manly would be popular as they are closer to the city, yet still close to water. Although prices will be higher, I think.

Unfortunately yes ABC. We are looking at buying another house at Wynnum, you are looking at around the $400K & up for something even on a smaller block (400-500sqm) in a good position. You can get them around $350K, but you wont be very close to the water.

I want Dagboy to have a look down your way (you're Vic point arent you?), or Wellington Point area or anywhere in between for a house for us, but he wont

LOL, i'd fancy buying another house round your way, if they were a bit cheaper, but I also want at least 700sm, and be able to see the water !

I've noticed recently that Vic Point, (where I am) has missed he worst of the storms. And we don't get many power cuts either, only 2 in the last half year.

Wellington point had some land being sold last weekend, I didnt get to see the prices, but it was about 20 blocks of 700sm-800sm very near the water.

Yeah, thats the problem with up here, we want an 800sqm block min (for us to live on, investment we would consider less), but you are looking at around $500K in Wynnum for that size, plus you arent even NEAR the water let alone see it LOL.

Down a bit from here to Vic point the prices get more reasonable & the blocks get bigger, for the same money ($500K) we can get something a heap better ie. bigger block & closer to the water. But its convincing him that it will be worth it even though he will have a slightly longer commute. OR convince him to retire/semi-retire & do something that WE want to do with our life ( , yes, I know you will read this Dagboy )

The only other problem is that we dont like new housing estates, so the blocks of land arent probably much good to us, unless we can dictate what our neighbours build which I dont think will go down very well

There's a 4 bed house on 2,000sqm in Vic Point for $479k with Ray White at the moment, and an empty 6,000sqm block for $420k.

Surely it must get tempting for him to take a drive down here

Yes yes yes yes YES, it is tempting LOL.

Is the 6000 sqm block with Ray White as well? Do you have any idea where it is? There is a 26 acre block (we currently have 3 acres) just down the road from us for sale for $420K, but its just that, a bush block & is riddled with mozzies & sandflies & is flood prone. Im trying to get away from some of the mozzies :scared:

Its a pity these Agents dont put better locations on their adverts, it agravates me when I am looking around.

I may have a look at it anyway, with the way Redland Bay is expanding, what will it be worth in 5 years time. At a current cost of $56,000 per average size block ? If it gets developed later ??
