Hi All

I am starting out on the quest to decide whether to move the family out to Oz.

There seems to be a wide range of opinions either way and I would just like to ask a few questions before i start the visa ball a rolling.

1. What sort of income do you need to enjoy a good i.e. UK lifestyle.
2. Doe anyone know what an IT Analyst programmer (Progress) could earn and if there is any chance of being offered a Job before you arrive.
3. Will I need the Visa to get a Job or is there any chance of Business Sponsorship (same as above really !).
4. Do you need to go through an agent, has anyone done it themselves ?

In answer to Q1, and at the risk of being controversial estimate $2000 per month would see you about right, for covreing rental and costs of living, depends where and on your lifestyle.

Jobs in IT seem to be limited worldwide depending on your specialism.

Most agencies and companies (not IT) i've tried won't even look at you without visa and arrival date.

No not everyone uses an agent, probably 50/50, but depends on how complicated and likely risk of failure. Some will give advice here FOC

Hi, have you been to Oz before? if you havnt it might be an idea to go see if you like it first,although i very much doubt you wont like it! we have just sent our application off,on a skilled independant and didnt use an agent. the t.r.a application was daunting but came back all hunky-dory. might be worthwhile checking out the skills in demand list as i think some types of computer based positions are on there.

Dont bother with an agent pal you dont need them. They are like highwaymen with breficases. If I can do it myself even a scouser can.
