Default Newbie, moving to Sydney in 7 weeks

Hi, Im moving to Sydney in 7 weeks on a 457 visa. I have a job in recruitment and they are sorting my flights, first months accomodation and visa.

Has any1 got any advice for me for the big move?

Thanks

I only ask because if someone recently arrived from the UK this really wouldnt actually seem that cold. What is it, 14 degrees or something?
I've been here for 4 years and I dont find it cold. Sure wear a jacket, but I see some people walking around town wearing massive euro-winter coats, woolly hats and scarfs, like they're about to tackle the Matterhorn!

Sydney winters are brilliant.

Make sure you understand how vulnerable you are on the 457 visa.

Ignore JAJ, he is extremely knowledgeable but an old curmudgeon when it comes to 457!! I have been here 3 1/2 years on 457 and even with the limitations I love it...and so does my bank balance!!

I understand that im tied 2 the company on the 457 visa but they are putting quite a bit of money into the move so im comfortable with the move. they are a multinational with a lot of uk workers. i will be applying for residency in the 3rd year with their support. i have spent a year in oz before so i know the climate well, when i get there im heading in2 spring so i will be shipping my heavy clothes over later in the year 2 make sure im set for next winter!

We too came on a 457 and also moved to Singapore on a similar visa which was a far more risky move. We got PR there and now have it here.

So long as you understand the risks and are prepared for any outcome, you'll be right.

Is the company sorting out a serviced apartment for you? If you need any recommendations, have a quick search of the forums as it comes up quite regularly.

Its been about 2-3C here on a morning.

Even when we were in SE Queensland, it was cold overnight through the winter (and I used to walk around in t-shirts through the winter in the UK, I've turned into a giant wuss here)

you walked round in tshirts during the british winter, your obviously mental! your winter last for maybe 3 months, uks lasts on average 7 months. looking forward 2 playin football over there and the ground not being frozen/waterlogged
