New member moving to Brisbane in 2 weeks...
Hi all,
I've been reading the Threads for a few weeks, so thanks to all for the useful, interesting, amusing and sometimes daft messages I've seen.
My big problem right now is that I'm arriving in Brisbane on 25 Oct and need somewhere to stay for a few weeks until I can rent somewhere local. Any suggestions on where to look (websites or areas) are welcome. Anyone who needs a lodger, or wants to make a recommendation is welcome. Budget of about AUD80-100 per week seems reasonable. I'm completely sane, no odd habits, fit in with most people. Preference is for a little quiet, due to the study, but some socialising will be welcome.
I'll be studying for an MBA at QUT in Gardens Point beginning 31 Oct, so close to the city is useful as my preference will for local transport or cycling. I don't want to get a car immediately if it can be avoided.
Some may be wondering why I've left this so late, well as I just sold my house yesterday this was the final item that could have jeopardised the move. Now I'm really going. Resigned the job (last day is 21 Oct), bought a flight. Just need to sell my car in the next few days. At some time I'll post a full description of my experience of applying as I'm sure it'll be of interest.
thanks in advance for any replies,
John McD.

Hi John and welcome.
Can't help with the accommodation as I'm off to Perth. Best of luck in finding somewhere - I'm sure someone will be able to help you on this website.
Cheers
Claire

To answer your question: I guess you don't want to rent somewhere on your own and would rather share a house? I would think then that your only option would be to book yourself a couple of nights in a motel in Brissy itself and then buy a local paper and look for house sharing places. The other alternative is to rent a small unit but that will probably cost more than you have mentioned.
To be honest John.....and I could be talking out of my hat here, I doubt anyone will be tempted with the $80 - $100 a week you've offered and to be quite honest, I'm not sure you'll find somewhere decent for that amount.
I hope I'm wrong
Anyways, I'm sorry I can't be of any more help but good luck....and good luck with the MBA too...you fool

Hi,
Maybe I am wrong about prices. I was making comparisons with student digs, which I want to avoid to be honest. I'll book myself into a B&B for a while, and then will look around for renting. For the short term I'm after something clean and comfortable at a low price. Later, maybe January, my GF will be joining me so I'll be looking for an apartment/unit/house to rent - but I'm not allowed to make that decision by myself.
John.

And you're right. No making any house decisions till the GF comes over. You should know, we always know best
Good luck!

Theres some nice places over at South Bank that you can rent short term. Good idea to wait to get somewhere permanant, living near uni isn't always the right option, get a feel of lots of suburbs first

Suggestions for areas might be the CBD, Southbank, Paddington, New Farm/the valley in terms of easy travel and good places to live.
